How to pronounce "Piezo" pickups properly!

Good point. Hopefully, two music related words will eventually devolve to sound less....geeky.

Piezo and Wenge.


I'm going with "Pie-zoe"

and

"Wenj"

Just to add to the fray, I worked in the ultrasonic engineering field for a short time, and we pronounced it PIE-ZO. And way back in high school, my friend's dad, who was an electrical engineer, also pronounced it PIE-ZO, so that's what stuck with me.

I know it's pee-eht-so but I'm from Texas so I pronounce it Pie-zo. After all, look what we did to newcular, pardon me, nuclear!

I'm surprised it's not of Italian origin because it reminds me of pizzicato. I wonder if anyone pronounces that like Mizz instead of pits.

Well, here is the Wikipedia reference:

which has it as "pee ay zo" at the top.

However, if you dig a little harder and look at the OED:

You find that "pee ay zo" is correct in the US, while "pee zo" is common in the UK.

But, the otherwise good folks in the UK pronounce aluminum as "aluminium;" so, they do tend to glorify things a bit.
Guess if you go on the road in the UK, you can get away with "pee zo."

Don't see any reference to "pie zo;" but, whatever floats your boat.

I've heard it pee-zo, pie-zo, pee-ay-zo, pie-ay-zo and probably other ways.
I try to avoid saying it, if I can.
A friend of mine called them pizza pickups.
