My band has been discussing the possibility of doing some live recordings at our gigs. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good field recorder? I've been looking at the Zoom H6 of course, as well as the Zoom R16/R24. They all have some good aspects but some deficiencies.
H6: Smaller, better recording fidelity, but less inputs (6 XLR)
R16: 8 inputs, but the meters look less useful, and has a bunch of extra features I don't need. Could even be expanded up to 16 inputs with another R16, but that would start to get costly.
Of course I could just get a laptop & interface, but that would be quite a bit more than I am interested in paying right now. The plan would be to just use the field recorder for recording and dump all the tracks into the computer for mixing etc. It's a 4 piece band, 2 guitars, bass, and a drum kit.
