How to remove and clean grill from Ampeg PF115LF

Hello!

I just bought an Ampeg PF115LF cab used and I´d like to remove the grill to check the speaker and also to clean it.
Does anyone know if it is possible to remove the grill and and how to do it?
As well, any tips on how to clean it?

As I still don´t know if I will keep the cab or not (single cab, I am missing tightness and snappiness, as expected ... 15'') I´d like to make it shine! ;)

Maybe an option to look for!

The ampeg is still under evaluation from my side. Got it without testing and expecting that, as a 15'' without horn and with a range only up to 3.7Khz, it would be this way.
Still trying to figure out if the grill can be removed and how...

On those particular cabinets, there aren't tabs. But, they come off the same as all of their cabinets. It's held on with velcro. Slide a butter knife in the groove, and gently pry it up. It will pop loose. Then, remove it

Don’t damage the speaker in the process of attempting to clean it. Especially if you don’t actually own it yet.

The cab is mine already, don´t know if I will keep it or let it go.
The cab won me. Can´t figure out how to remove this grill, ... I pass.

Man, I have read like a thousand of your posts on the last days, thinking about buying a Genz Benz. Thank you very much for all you have shared with us.
Been thinking about a shuttle 6.X. I hope it is a good match to the PF115LF...

Yes, yes it is. You just pull it off. It's just velcro. Strong velcro, but just little velcro circles. Pry up from the bottom corner. It'll go.

Here you go.


You put it back on by slipping it in, and pushing your thumbs on the velcro areas. It will audibly pop back in to place. It's just velcro. It just happens to be very good velcro.

Ampeg grilles are held on by these little velcro circles. It's the same on every one. Even the 810.

I wasn't talking about this, more about not trying to clean the speaker... just leave it alone. I had a speaker come in the shop recently where thought that Windex would be a good way to clean the speaker... ended up getting a recone job instead.

Also, whenever prying on the edge of a cabinet, it's easy to damage the vinyl. Yes, I see this too.

Oh, okay. I thought you meant by slipping something flat in there, and hitting the speaker.

Yes, you can damage the tolex. I haven't yet though. And I pop every grille off when I first get it. Check all the screws, and look for damage. Everytime. I even made that grille. Built it myself.

The grille assembly with the top and bottom fascia pulls off. There are four interlocking buttons, one in each corner.

Try running the back of a thin knife or putty knife inside the crack at the bottom and see if you can find and pull out two nylon tabs. Pull these together to remove the grille assembly.



See the tabs at the bottom. You can see the locking buttons on the PF115LF.



Top two buttons.

Okay cool. I couldn't remember if the pf cabs had the tabs or not.

I used to pull on them with a weenie roller frame.
