I’m ashamed to admit that I just bought a set of Dunlop flat wounds because I thought that the TI’s cost too much…Even though I have two basses with TI’s and know exactly how great they are.

I fondly remember the days when they were “only” $70 USD

Good Idea! I've wanted to try, but they very cost deterent! But if someone said I'll get you some for your B-Day, I wouldn't say No. who knows I could be a game changer!

Not sure about this advice. String taste is very subjective. TI Jazz Flats will appeal to some players but definitely not others. I'd hate to see you waste your BD money on something expensive that you might not like.

Anyone who hangs out here is eventually going to have to give in to all they hype about TI Flats and try them. I resisted for a long time but gave in finally . . . and very happy I did. So, I agree with the TI Flats suggestion and also really like the fixer-upper idea. Great learning experience and if you are even just a little careful, its pretty easy to find an easy flip opportunity. My favorite is when Mom is selling JR's bass because he left it there when he went off to start his life . . . it says 'Squier' on the headstock but she doesn't know that its a VM or CV and sells if for $100 because that's what affinities go for. Primarily, have some fun with it!

Had to check it out. I have absolutely no need for one myself, but that's pretty cool and their sound-sample video demonstrates it nicely. Almost wish I needed it...

Strings, cables, upgrade tuning machines, locking stap locks, a new wide strap... Any of these things should be covered by $100. They may not seem like great fun but if and when I have a little extra, there are what I try to think about whether I need them or not.

There are a few here who seem to specifically hate this advice to try a very popular (yet relatively expensive) string, hahaha! Nevermind the recommendations to try out a bunch of other things shared with no complaint. Folks seem to wanna single out this one idea to complain about.

It's cool. I had a great time playing my Jazz with TI jazz flats yesterday to an appreciative and mostly awake crowd of 5 senior citizens at a nursing home along with our young adults from church, lol! They're such fun strings to play and very uprighty/thumpy. Goes great with the acoustic-based music and style of songs we were playing.

Haha.... Actually I means, 100 bug for the Ti flat first .... Then buy the vintera bass once OP has 1k .
