How To Spend $500 At Guitar Center?

When I retired a couple of months back, my employer gave me $500 in Guitar Center gift cards. The irony is that I thought I'd made all my necessary purchases before retiring. The willful expenditure of money when you have a paycheck is far different from living on a retirement income, so I'm now faced with the dilemma of how to buy something from Guitar Center that I don't really "need," but may find useful (in a sort of "why didn't I think of that?" moment).

I don't need a bass (I have four) or an amp. Pedals don't do it for me, although I have several. Cleaning and repair items I have a-plenty.

So, what am I missing? What would YOU get?

Sounds like you're looking for a slightly frivoulous piece that would be a reminder of past glory... this gives you room for a few more instruments down the road, and you'd only have to kick in 4 dollars.

Headphones are a good thought. Maybe some BOSS Waza Airs. I love mine for untethered wireless silent practice, playing to streamed music, etc. Then you have less than $100 to fritter away.

Necessary purchases? Keep in mind that Elwood traded away the Blues-mobile for a microphone... plenty of possibilities out there!!

I'm actually headed to a GC today to check out a couple of 6-string basses, but I'm also going to look at some guitar stuff (I'm very much a bass guy, but sometimes I've just got to strum). I spotted a cheap 'n funky Gretsch I need to try out, but I'm also lacking a small guitar amp. I also don't have an acoustic and I'm diggin' nylon string/classical guitars these days. This could be fun :rolleyes:

Remember that if you spot something interesting at a GC that's not too far away, it's not a big deal to buy-it-to-try-it. I've put their 45-day return policy to very good use in recent years.

Strings and accessories fer me. Straps, cables, stands, would all get new replacements. Tubes for my tube preamps, and whatever is left on strings. I could be tempted by a cool, underpriced used bass or speaker cab. Or, a good D.I. box, preamp pedal or tuner.
