How to tote an SVT/810

I've been using a regular small handtruck to tote my SVT but it's about to go on me. I need something that can go up stairs, so I think I may get stuck with another handtruck. But I'd like to know if there are any other better options that might keep me from having to take two trips to carry the whole thing from place to place but still allow me to wheel the cab up stairs. And before you bring it up, no, it's not a towel bar cab and it doesn't have its own wheels.

That's being macho JimmyM... ha ha ha ha ha. I have to pick up my VR with the big cab tomorrow from a friend's studio and I am already going trough the pain of moving it.

No, just kidding. I think the best solution is to get some help, most of the times stairs won't allow you to use all those weird hand trucks designs you see around that can climb... Just my opinion!

Perhaps the type of hand trucks which are used to move say.., fridges? :D

Seriously. Although pricey, IMO a hand truck which is designed to manage potentially injurious weight loads would be a true investment/form of insurance.

Somehow I just feel the word "tote" is horribly inadequate here. What, are we talking your text book for your English lit class here or a freakin' SVT cab, man?! Haul. Ship. Ferry. Truck. Those might be more appropriate for the behemoth load of which you speak!

Anyway, yeah, as has been suggested, one of those refrigerator hand trucks with the straps comes to mind. I used those to haul fire proof safes lined with some sort of concrete or something. Those suckers were HEAVY. They never budged on that hand truck, though. Even up and down stairs.

Hey Jimmy, a two wheel hand truck/dolly with a ratcheting locking strap is what you need. And preferably with stair climbers. These are belts that are right above the wheels. They usually make these carts out of aluminum. There are alot of inustry catalogues that carry these. I have personally moved fridge's, washers, dryers by myself up and down flights of steps. And I am not a python sized arm guy at all. Whats great about the ratcheting locking strap is that once it is tighened and locked, it's like the cart is part of what you are moving. These carts are not cheap. But what you are moving isn't either. We have had the same one at work for about 28 years, aside from reglueing the protective felt back onto the rails that is the only maintenance we have ever done to this cart. PM me if you are having problems finding one.

Hey Jimmy, Look here is what i do. I whent to Lowe's and purchased me a Hand truck with locking wratchet belt with, Get this, 10" Baloon tires. But no matter what you may stil need someone to push. But Boy it sure goes up the stairs real easy.....:hyper:

I agree wholeheartedly. I have an appliance mover that has a strap that goes around and secures the load.

It also has the FAN BELTS on the back that roll as you go up stairs. The only thing I don't like about them is the wheels are about the size of the 810 fridge's wheels. They aren't the best for running across driveways etc.

My cart is like the ones you might rent from Uhaul. No I didn't steal it.

The search Jimmy would be for a cart like that, but with larger wheels. They don't have to be air,,, Air just means flat whenever you want to use it. You will spend $300 on a nice one I bet but it could be very much worth it.

That was my experience also. The pneumatic tires found on many hand carts are cheap, tubeless, and they leak.

The next hand cart I get will have semi-pneumatic tires.

Might I recommend these two fine individuals as roadies. One of them, it is said, plays bass. As you can see, they can move your SVT fridge - as well as install microwave ovens, custom kitchen deliveries, and color TVs.
