How was the NYE gig?

We weren't booked for NYE until maybe a week before. Everyone kept telling us they had just assumed we were taken, lol. So we just figured we'd take a few days off cause January is gonna be a bit busy.

We had high hopes for the gig we did get (a prior owner recently re-bought a venue that was rocking under his ownership). Ended up being pretty quiet, but the place just recently re-opened so it's understandable. It was great fun though, played a venue that had an A circuit set-up, hung out with a few friends, had some smoked-meat spaghetti after. A nice quiet NYE gig.

Nice to see pretty much everyone had fun. Here's to a great 2012 for everybody.:bassist:

My cover band had a disastrous NYE gig, and it was my first ever NYE gig at that. Everything went pretty smoothly musically. Had a decent crowd and people were dancing. Mid way through our second set, about 12:30 or so the bar tender tells us to pack it up! We had been book to play till 2 am! Well needless to say I wasn't happy because I knew exactly what was coming next: We were going to get stiffed. We pack up and the bartender calls me and the band leader to the back and hands us a check for less than half of what we signed a contract for. I tell the guy that's not right and he claims our promoter promised him we'd bring 100 people. Well considering that we are a fairly new band and have never been able to bring that kind of crowd I could tell something was up. To make matters worse the promoter had dropped off 100 fliers for them to pass out to advertise the night, and part of the contract called for having our name on the marquee. None of that happened. Our band leader tells the guy to keep the money and that he will be hearing from his attorney. He asks the guy his name and the weasel makes some smart remark about us knowing where to find him. I tell the guy to stop being a butt hole which causes him to jump in my face and start screaming. I calmly proclaimed him a penis head and was escorted out of the bar. Lovely way to start my new year.

Wait, there was a signed contract? I call shenanigans. Problem might be that it'll cost more than it's worth to go legal on it. I personally would have taken what he was offering and get the promoter you worked with to deal with the rest. It's his money too, let him work for his cut.

Dealing with bar owners suck.

I'm not entirely sure of all the legal stuff going on... I was told they had 10 days to pay us before the promoter takes it to small claims court. Apparently, though, the promoter had already been payed his cut.... yeah... I know

Well, you know now anyway, lol.

Don't let it get you down dude. You might just be getting the bad karma out of the way first so the rest of the year can be nothing but epic win. Besides, there's isn't a single success-story artist or band out there who doesn't have anecdotes like that, or worse.

At least the world didn't end.

I didn't have a NYE gig, so I went and sat in with some buds at a local VFW on their gig just for fun. They usually let the keys play bass, so it was good for them to have a real bass player for a change. I told them from the start that I was there just to enjoy the comeraderie and have a good time. My wife went with me. It was a great time, for sure. Heh, but they said I could have whatever went in the tip jar. By dang if I didn't get $72 just for having a great time. Can't beat that.
