How will a 8 ohm amp and 4 ohm speaker work?

I have had an automobile hobby for many decades. For the first several decades, I would read the manual AFTER performing the procedure, if at all. Today, I read the manual BEFORE making the repair. This has worked out better.
Doing all the steps in a process is usually important, doing steps in the right order is always important...i.e. sequence matters!

This gets a little further off topic, but: I have historically had a hard time learning from other peoples' mistakes. I learn best from my own. But the price is high, and the mistakes can be avoided. I used to think I was brilliant. Way ahead of the curve. I was a dumbass. Today, I am beginning to figure things out. I am 63.

If I had a dollar for every time I saved myself the grief of learning from my own mistakes and leveraging the wisdom of others when I was a young man...well let's just say that I'd need to borrow money to buy a pack of gum. I guess many of us need to accumulate a little wisdom before we can learn to appreciate it.

You will find, now that you've picked up the bass, this is how it has been for us bass players even before COVID. We've always stood in the back at least 6 ft away from the other band members... nobody comes near us on our break, they always go over and talk to the drummer or the lead singer. You should have stuck with the drums .. it can get very lonely as a bass player at times. just a little advice from your old uncle Bill ;)
Hey Uncle Bill, I never gave up the drums, just expanding my horizons. Thanks for the viewpoint.

There were some Walter Woods heads that were 8 ohm only as well.
Just curious, are there some particularly useful aspects/benefits to designing a SS power amp to be only 8 Ohm Charlie? I can see some obvious areas when going for the smallest possible size where the larger footprint more robust components occupy and the added space necessary for active and/or passive thermal management would be problematic.

One choice may be to intentionally choose a lower voltage set of rails to allow easier design around the preamp power supply (perhaps eliminating a set of secondary windings) which would require a bridge topology on the power amp. This was not uncommon with SMPS back in the day. Another reason would be to use a single ended supply for both the preamp and power amp, but doing so would necessitate an output coupling cap (large, expensive part) on the power amp but again, a bridged topology can eliminate this part if done right.

That's great news! I just turned 62, so evidently I'm only a year away from not being an idiot!
