How you use effects within your band (bring on the clips!)

Wow - some great stuff in this thread!

I use fuzz and flange on Billy (flanger kicks in around the 1:40 minute mark) and synth on the first verse of Thieves (with phaser coming on for the other verses and the end) into an overdriven "sub dub" amp model. Oh, and tremolo on the intro to Big Bad Wolf.

For example in the first track "Viimeiset hetket ovat käsillä" I use
- BMS (intro with delay and volume pedal, maybe there is BF-2B Flanger too) BMS also in the middle of the song: Taurus-sweeps
- Delay (DL4 with expression pedal) + Volume pedal (for violin swells)
- Bassdrive (basic overdriven sound)
- Ring mod (Moog or EHX, do not remember anymore)
- Black Cat Octave Fuzz (last verse)
And maybe something else... :bassist:

hahah seems like the efx-heads are dabbling in electronica one way or another :)

Breakbeat Theory's myspace is below, so feel free to check it out!

We have a Facebook page just set up as well, so hook us up.

My band: Link Removed

None of the recordings I have up really have anything crazy but I'll go through them anyway.

-Yellow Scrunchy is a jam, my Bassdrive is my "clean" tone, so that's the growl you hear. About midway through I turn on my Phase 90 which I have set to a slow swell. Then at the end where it gets quiet I turn the Whammy IV which is set to a Harmony Oct Up/Oct Down, pedal heel down. I do some slides with it if you listen closely.

-Phantomile is just a clip of a much longer song (15 minutes or something). After the "noise" I turn the Whammy on to the harmony Oct Up/Down with the pedal toe down. I turn it off and later I turn the Phase 90 on again for the chords.

-X starts out with Phase 90 and goes "clean" and I turn the whammy on somewhere. That song is rather straight forward, no real need to use much.

-Guilty As Charged is pretty much the same as "X". I use Phaser, and Whammy for a short bit. Song doesn't really need any more than that.

-Paranoid Angels has many a thing happening, haha. Intro has Delay, Tremolo, Phaser, and Whammy. I throw the Phaser on again in the verse and then it stays "clean" until I really go clean and turn the Bassdrive off for a little bit. The very end has Phaser, Tremolo and Distortion (Boss DS1 Modded).

-Quarantined is pretty much the same deal as Paranoid Angels. "Clean" with some Phaser in the first verse until a noise break where I turn on two delays, tremolo, and DS-1. After that it's Phaser with some delay at the very end. Then back to "clean". I turn the whammy Oct Up/Down Harmony again for al il bit before going "clean" again. After that I turn delay on for a tiny bit at the very end of the song.

I use effects kinda sparingly I guess. If you count the Bassdrive I use effects all the damn time, haha.

I liked Varjoe... however the rest of it is spelled, lol. What language is that anyways? (oh, Finnish, cool)

That was a cool song though. I liked the (what sounded like) a ring mod on the voice.

Cool tones.

"Here I Am" - I use a Sansamp RBI rack unit for overdrive the whole song and then in the bridge I kick on a tonebender coloursound fuzz.

"Isolation" - I use my DD-20 Delay in the verse's and the bridge

"Feel Good Hit Of The Summer" - This is a live cover of the QOTSA song and atm my overdrive was the English Muff'n

I love the intro to 'Here I Am'. Good song, well done!

I really like your music, Isolation is really good too.

Hi Rasthedoctor,

what kind of synth is that?
I really like that sound

Judas, I like the way you make your bms sound in the intro!
maybe I should look into a volume pedal as well

here are some of the songs of Link Removed (bass + guitar + two microphones)

Johnny Walker: EHX LBM into an Behringer bass overdrive. And maybe some other pedal as well, but I can't remember)

Thinking Models:
Fuzz + overdrive + boss phaser ph3

Ti posso toccare I:
DD20 + chorus (iirc) and cell phone

Seabass is not a fishy fish:
DD20 + chorus + some of my pedal that made a hissing sound. but that could have been the vocal chain

This is a game of enormous hostility
mmm, I use a lot of effects in this one, and I really can't recall which ones. (and admittedly, the beginning isn't that good). But when I listen to it again, I can imagine I used: EHX BMS, Pulsar tremolo, DD20, Fuzz, nanostone (not too long) and the Buddha Machine (at 6:45)

Exerpt 08/02/07

that was in the beginning that I picked up bass again. I used a behringer chorus and overdrive, my guitarists GT-6 and a borrowed rackmount digitech multi fx, and some kind of looper. oh, and the whole song is just the sound of the bass, looped through effects, and stacked onto eachother.

This is a live practice recording of our song "Fall Out" from a week ago

There's just electric guitar, bass (short-scale six-string), drums, and vocal. Oh yeah, also a tanpura drone sample (stored in one of the guitarist's pedals)

I'm using an EHX Clone Theory Chorus, some analog delay (on the intro and verses; I shut it off during the choruses), and a bit of reverb and overdrive.

Wanted to say that I really dug your stuff. My Finnish is nonexistent, so I hope none of the stuff was about puppy torture or endorsing genocide, but great tones, awesome arrangements, and cool sounds.:)

Thank you Sir. :smug: Yes we sing in Finnish. We composed that song (Varjoeläimet) originally for compilation CD against sexual violence. We use ring mod also in vocals every now and then. Our singer use effects on gigs too.

Here are a few video clips from my band's performance at last year's Inferno festival here in Norway.

Clip 1: MXR Blowtorch, on from about 00:20 to about 01:10, then on again at about 03:43 - 04:25. (And the guitarist makes some good use of a Whammy as well)

Please forgive the somewhat sloppy playing here and there :hiding:

Here's the new songs from my band. More Finnish language for you. Link Removed

Cream pie (always on), Boss OC2, Akai Deep Impact + Unibass, EHX bass synth, Carl martin fuzz, Polish love in different parts of the songs.

When I saw this thread my band was about to go into the studio. Now that we're done I can post in here. The three tracks 'Bloodshed,' 'Betterman,' and 'Noose' are the ones we recorded.

In 'Bloodshed' there is a phaser, a Micro POG, and an OCD in parts.

In 'Betterman' there is the OCD in parts.

In 'Noose' most of the effects are in the intro. I have the phaser, delay, and wah going throughout the intro.

All the effects are in a clean blend except the phase, delay, and mPOG.
