Hum cancelling pickup recommendations for Lakland DJ-4

Hi all,

I had posted this in the Lakland Owners Group forum but only got one reply, so I am asking here to try and get more recommendations.

I have a Lakland Skyline DJ-4 bass and I love the tone I get from the stock pickups, however I don't like the hum that comes with 2 single-coil Jazz style pickups. I am looking for recommendations to replace the stock pickups with hum-cancelling Jazz style pickups while retaining the sound of the Lakland DJ-4. The recommendation from the Lakland group was Nordstrom NJ4SV. They have great reviews and seem to retain the single coil tone. Any other recommendations out there?

Thanks, I checked out Fralin's Split Jazz and it's described as "Being a hum-canceling Jazz Bass pickup, it's fat, thick, and a little thicker sounding than a single-coil Jazz Bass." Looking for something that is most similar to a single coil sound. Though I know with a hum-cancelling pickup, it will sound a bit different.

I personally think you can't go wrong with the split coil pu from L. Fralin. Quiet, phat, and growl with the 5% overwind issue. If you don't want the "dig-in" sound, just turn them down a bit on the knobs. Also the Jaco-esque sound is there with the jazz bass....

Update, I put in a set of Nordstrand NJ4SV hum cancelling pickups and love them. Quiet yet still retain the characteristics of a single coil J.

I have single coil and split coil jazz pickups from Fralin. I use the Fralin split coils. They sound very much like the single coils just a tiny bit darker, minus the noise. The single coils are great but they're put away in a box for a reason.

Difficult to recommend things that can be subjective but since you like them, you also have a very classy product.
These work so well off stage, in that close up, you might suspect your sound is harsh and you need to dial down a tad, but don't, the projection is pretty amazing and people can actually hear you.

I have a Lakland P/J fretless that I ordered a Nordstrand hum cancelling set for. Same NJ4SV pickup. Waiting for that to arrive.
