Humbucker to cover a Precision Style pickup route?

Hi all

I have a P-bass with a nordstrand NP4 that I'd like to switch to a humbucker. While I'm pretty sure a MM style bucker would cover up the route, is there anything else there that would do the trick? Something like a G&L MFD or something from nordstrand?

the nordstrand big man series are mm size. I think they are the biggest in there range

I’m pretty sure you can buy a G&L MFD directly from G&L and they’re not too expensive.

For what it’s worth, a P pickup is a humbucker.

The overall footprint of a typical P pickup cavity is about 106 mm x 58 mm (including the mounting ears). There really aren't any pickups that cover the entire footprint. The main body of an MM pickup is only 89 x 49mm and the mounting ears don't line up so you can't count on them to cover up the P footprint.

Best option would be to incorporate a pickup ring or small pickguard of some sort to cover the edges of the cavity that stick out beyond whatever pickup you want.

Or, you get get two soapbars in, and run them like a humbucker. Might need P2 sized covers tho…

or, get a custom sized cover that’s the right size and fit a smaller pickup underneath…

Pickguard springs to mind.
Buy a blank one and use whatever pickup your heart desires
