Hybrid Picking?

Hello, TalkBass

Has anyone here tried hybrid picking? I was considering it today, using the pick to pick the bottom two or three strings (I play an extended-ranged bass tuned to F) and fingerstyling the top strings, but I'm thinking that three free fingers wouldn't be enough to properly do the stuff I like doing, like playing really fast eight and sixteenth notes on the higher strings, and I'd lose out on my most vital muting technique, the floating thumb. What do you guys think? Has anybody of you tried hybrid picking on bass?

This sounds interesting but it seems like it would be easy to drop your pick doing this.

Also, if your hand is positioned right, you can mute anywhere with pick style. You must be anchoring your hand with pickstyle, which can't be good.

Edit: Sorry, I didn't see that you where using an extended range bass. No wonder you have muting issues!
