Hypocrites are funny!

I just can't understand how you could equate poverty with NOT having a bunch of bling bling? Besides,being "prosperous" 2000 years ago meant keeping a good roof over your head, not dying of the common cold, having more than 60% of your kids survive into adulthood, and not having the locust swarms show up this year! Actually, I'll bet those are the only wishes for 80% of the people who are alive on our planet RIGHT NOW!

I am not saying there is anything wrong with being rich, I would love to be rich. FLAUNTING your wealth is a little different. But even then I don't really care because I was trying to sell jewelry after all!

No matter what is said about it, showing off expensive trinkets that are supposed to celebrate and remind people to carry themselfs in a humble way, is prefect example of hypocrisy.

I might also say that yes, I do judge people sometimes. WE ALL DO! It's part of how we get through day to day life. There is nothing wrong with it as long as you still treat them they same way as you would like to be treated. (golden rule)

The most ironic thing is, in a thread about hypocrisy, you told me that you thought it was WRONG for me to judge this other person as foolish. Well, when you said that, you were JUDGING ME. Putting a label on me. And if it is wrong to judge people, than you (by your own standards) are just as wrong as me. The difference is that I don't pretend otherwise.

See what I mean everyone, hypocrisy is entertaining!!

That's kinda like the guy who designed the Segue Human Transport thingie. He was snapped at some Environmental banquet getting out of his Hummer in the parking lot.

Did he promote the Segue as the answer to our environmental problems? I just thought it was a nifty gadget? Does he rag on people who drive gas guzzlers? I don't know much about the man but it seems a stretch to call him a hypocrite because he invented the segue and drives a hummer. After all, before he invented the seque he invented that wheelchair that can go down stairs and drive on two wheels. Is he a hypocrite for having legs that work? :smug:

Good point! Going to an environmental dinner only implies he cares about the planet. It dosen't prove it. (unless he gave a speech about how he was saving the world or something)

It still made me chuckle though. Can you imagine some of the looks he got?

A friend sent me a good picture. I tried to post it, but it is too big

There was a newspaper article about this homeowner. She was rasing a stink that the noise of jackhammers from a nearby project would damage her unborn child. In the picture of her standing in her yard, she was smoking a cigarette!

What a loser!

The only funny thing about this is that she was dumb enough to lite up while they were taking her picture!

At any point in time I have the ability to be an idiot and an intelligent person (non-idiot) at the same time as we all do. But I cannot possibly be one or the other unless observed by another party.... in which case I'm usually an idiot!

As far as we know maybe the people putting on the dinner invited him because THEY view the seque as an answer to some environmental problems regardless of what he thinks...and maybe he drove the hummer just to get under people's skin. Who knows... :)

In the same vein, the original purchser of the gold WWJD bracelet could have been buying the item for a friend he felt was a hypocrite. Now how does everyone feel?

PS...I don't care either way, I don't like gold and I think it quite pointless to guess what the Son of Man might do when he pulls up to a red light at 2 AM with no cars in sight. (But I bet he'd run it. I mean, c'mon, he's got more important stuff to do).

Or he could just snap his fingers and make the light turn green. Sometimes you've got to take advantage of that whole Son of God thing and get where you're going.

IIRC he was there to recieve an award for furthering our independence on foreign oil. but don't quote me on that.

So you wouldn't mind if the people in your original post went on to an internet forum and posted about you being a hypocrite?

IMO judgement is fuel for the ego.

Some hypocitical/stupid things that always annoy me:

When someone goes on and on complaining about someone they know who complains too much.

When someone eats a salad because it's healthy and then follows up lunch with a cigarette or 2.

When an actor or other celebrity knowingly puts him/herself in the public eye and then complains about a lack of privacy or that they're hounded for autographs relentlessly.

When someone quotes a Biblical passage in support of hating someone. (I know there's a thread about this)

When someone with a good job and good benefits, vacation, etc complains to someone with a crappy job and no benefits about having to work on a weekend or not getting paid for a holiday they didn't work or something. (This isn't hypcrisy, but it's certainly an instance of someone showing their stupidity)

That's all I can think of for now. No specific encounters that I can recall off hand. I'll try to think of some. ;)

It wouldn't bother me in the least, especially if they had a valid point or a good example of my hypocrisy. Besides, it's not like I'm mentioning names. Those people I'm talking about are not getting hurt by me making a post about them. If it would cause them harm, I would not be doing it!

Hah, I used to work with a woman who was a vegetarian for "health reasons". Sure enough, she was a smoker.

My mother used to smoke, and she's always complaining about overweight people and how unhealthy it is to be fat. If I'd thought of it at the time, I would have said to her "I hear smoking is a great way to lose weight."
