That is pretty funny. Unless it meant "What WOULDN'T Jesus do?"

It reminds me of a joke. A priest is in a bar in a small rural Quebec town (the French part of Canada). He notices a woman who is drunk and throwing herself at all the male patrons. He also notices that she has "Jesus" tatooed on her right forearm. When he asks her about this she replies "Father, it doesn't say Jesus, it says Je sus!"

Je sus = French for "I suck"

Another thing to be aware of when you're in Quebec: a popular snack food is "poutine" (pronounced pooh-teen), which is french fries with gravy and cheese curds on top. Make sure you pronounce it properly. Don't go into a restaurant and order "putin" (pronounced pew-ten), which means whore.

But when you eat fake meats, aren't you essentially trying to find substitutes for meat? I would think that it'd be somewhat contradictory to 'the mission,' so to say, if you're a vegan for moral reasons. I find no difference between that and fake fur/leather.

PS: I don't think you're a hypocrite though, nor do I think anyone is (or perhaps I should say isn't).

I'm not sure meat substitutes would be considered immoral for the vegan crowd; in fact, I would assume that if one is a vegan for moral reasons, it's likely because he/she would rather not have animals killed so that others may eat them. Unless fake animals are killed to make fake meat (the majestic soy cow?), I'm not even seeing shades of hypocrisy here. Some vegans probably just like the way meat tastes and would like to replicate the flavor without killing animals, I'd say. Sounds in keeping with the moral reasons for being a vegan to me.

I'm no expert, not being a vegan or even a vegetarian, but I would assume that this is how most fake meat eating vegans feel.

btw I am not entering into any debates here. We are all on our own path. Rarely have i heard of a debate ending in, "You know, you're absolutely right and I was wrong." So what's the point?

I eat veggie bergers sometimes (not a vegetarian though). I don't think they really try to be meat substitute. A veggie berger is kind of like flafel in berger format. I'm sure they could make it taste more like meat if they wanted to, but they don't.


SPAM is a meat substitute, and it's actually made of meat! How's that for hypocricy?

My mother used to smoke, and she's always complaining about overweight people and how unhealthy it is to be fat. If I'd thought of it at the time, I would have said to her "I hear smoking is a great way to lose weight."

I used to know someone who would go off on the horrors of eating meat (I think I mentioned buffalo wings). It was kinda funny, watching him rant about the horrible fatty buffalo wings in between drags of his cigarette and slugs of beer. :)

A vegetarian diet can make some people pretty gassy. And with a lit cigarette around? I see a possible replay of the Hindenburg disaster! ;)
