I almost found it (Lee Sklar related!)

When I was in maybe my second year of my Ph.D. program, I saw a poster of Lee Sklar with a BB3000 and a Yamaha rig plus two Basset Hounds at a music store. I begged the store for that poster and they eventually let me buy it and had I it laminated. I kept it on my wall at least two years. I think it was lost on a move home.

The image I posted with this thread must have been taken during the same session, but with no real dog. I bought a BB2000 not long after I got that poster and nearly forty years later, I remember that bass as one of the nicest I ever owned.

That looks like a Yamaha BB3000s to me. 3 knobs and the P pickup isn’t reversed like a BB2000

Yep - My band drank the Yamaha Kool-Aid in the early 80's - amps, P.A. system, monitors, etc.
I had THAT Preamp, THAT Power Amp, THAT 2x15 cab and a beautiful sunburst BB2000.

Cool poster. Those early 80's Yamahas were great I owned a BB2000 for a while but later sold it. It's what I do, sell great basses followed by years of regret.

The cabinets were OK, but . . . if you look over his right shoulder you'll see a Yamaha PB1 bass preamp sitting on top of a Yamaha P2200 stereo power amp.

I ran that combination into a pair of single 15 JBL Cabaret cabs, and it was the best I ever (or ever will) sounded. PB1's are still traded around today, and that era Yamaha P-series PA amps were absolute magic: They had a tone like cool air, very present and neutral without sounding sterile or dry, and they were BUILT.

I ran that combination into a pair of single 15 JBL Cabaret cabs, and it was the best I ever (or ever will) sounded. PB1's are still traded around today, and that era Yamaha P-series PA amps were absolute magic: They had a tone like cool air, very present and neutral without sounding sterile or dry, and they were BUILT.

That Eighties/Nineties era was a real high point of Yamaha bass gear. I guess Yamaha cannot really sell all of that great stuff at affordable prices anymore.

Sure they do. But good is never cheap, and that PB1/P2200 stack was around 1500 bucks in 80's money. Sounded like it, too.

The funniest thing I've ever seen of Sklar is his video where he was imploring folks to get the COVID vaccine, and cussing and swear at those that don't want it. All the while having a "RESIST" sticker on his bass while doing so.

Tim Lefebvre uses a old Yamaha P.A. head as a preamp.
