I am beginning to find this troubling

As annoying as I find it I’m used to updates at this point with technology. Most updates just seem like engineers trying to put their own spin on it but what do I know. Anyhow, things will get sorted out and than when your used to it I’m sure it will change again. The biggest thing I noticed is i spend less time here because… well I find it less direct. It just seems messy to me. It’s probably a good thing I’m not on here so much. At the end of the day I’m sure a little change is good for all of us.
I still remember it taking hours to download a song as I’m sure most of you do as well.

My engagement had been waning for various reasons anyway, but the new software didn’t or doesn’t remember my password and I had been too lazy to fix it on my limited downtime.
I’ve also seen more and more threads that seem like AI / bots and I refuse to engage them. It’s to the point where I can’t even give the benefit of the doubt if there is any question, I’d rather ignore a real newbie than waste my life wising up someone’s bot for them like I’m probably doing right now.

I do kinda miss feeling like I was missing out on something if I didn’t log in a few times a day. My productivity hasn’t improved, unfortunately.
Can you point out a a few bot-generated threads?

On the old site, I used the most active or whatever it was called as my landing page. You would see the threads that are most active sorted by decreasing replies and then they would age out aft ~24-36 hours. I'm not sure what they use to identify the "Hot" threads, but it doesn't seem they age out. They are sorted chronologically by the last reply. So it seems like we're getting a few threads that linger for a longer period of time and you have to scroll more to find the top few threads. So it seems more jumbled instead of the most active thread, the second most active thread, the third, etc. And yes, it seems like I'm seeing different members posting, but I'm still seeing regulars.

To quote Dorothy, 'People come and go so quickly around here'.

All I can say is although it's different, I'm having no trouble with it, except the emotional toll of seeing so many of the bereft. If the site was never updated, and was hacked six ways of Sunday, guys would wail and carry on just the same, and painfully wonder why the site wasn't updated.

Last time I checked, I've never had anything where I really could have anything both ways.

Over time I am becoming both more at ease and more efficient in navigating the new TalkBass, but as part of that process I am noticing patterns that have me worried: (1) I am seeing a lot fewer new threads in "Basses" on both the BG and DB sides (the BG side barely records enough new threads in a day to get onto a second page); it seems like we have all but achieved stasis. (2) a lot of the more active threads like Gretsch Owners Club, Acoustic Bass Fetish Club, and Exquisite/Glarry/Burning Fire Club, appear to have gone dormant, with little or no activity for days. (3) a lot of our more frequent posters seem to have vanished or gone dark, and a lot of the newer posts are from names I do not recognize. I'm happy to see the "new" people, but I miss the veterans.

Open for comment.
Summertime Summertime Sum Sum Summertime...

One thing I've noticed is that I am not getting notifications for watched threads consistently. For several days last week I just thought people were busy with the 4th holiday or something, but when I checked on my watched threads it turned out that they were busy and I just wasn't getting notices. So now I don't trust anything to work here anymore.

But at least I am earning "levels" and "achievements" and seeing lots of ads. So I got that going for me, which is nice.
Same thing happened to me. I'm fine now that I know that I need to click on my watched section, but it was pretty confusing at first!

There is something off putting about the flow. Maybe it's the slow response time ? I dunno. Can't really put my finger on it but I do miss the old interface. And whoever thought this levels thing was going to be anything but annoying... epic fail. I'll stay. With diminished enthusiasm. Hopefully it will improve over time.

I think it's getting better, now Ads are back (was ad-free for a couple of days!) but they are tamed down to small banner at the top and a medium banner mid-page. And I'm not seeing all those video ads and hearing the ones playing sound . Still finding the Classifieds slow, I think there's something really glitchy in the configurations there...

I'm fine with the change. But I will say I do miss the old style simply because it reminded me of the form days that died so quickly in my age gap because of things like reddit, and other social medias. I also just feel like the new design is extremely similar to other forums around.

Other than that, I'm fine with it, and I agree with @ebo that some people on here do need to chill a tad bit. The world is still functioning, doesn't hurt to be kind to the mods.

Does anybody think if the TB Gods had asked us mortals what we’d like to see in an upgrade there would have been agreement.? And if we had some input we’d have had better buy-in? The company I work for now used to work that way but lately has been changing all kinds of things with no warning. I understand the frustration. I don’t think the conversion was done as thoughtlessly as some people imagine, and hopefully they’ll take constructive criticism into account when doing future upgrades.
