All my kids play instruments, and one of the larger “school projects” they’re involved in asked me to record some upright bass tracks to go with their various squeaky instruments. Due to weird virus-y circumstances I only had a fretless Jazz available, so I went with that.

Hoooboy do I need practice. My fretless intonation is actually solid. But the rhythm? 33 takes were apparently not enough.

I have the upright for 24 hours so we’ll find out if a bow helps.

Seems like you just need more practice. Maybe with a metronome starting at a slower tempo set where you can get the rhythm correct.

Or try clapping the rhythm on it's own.

It’s just straight 1/8ths. But on the fills between chords I wobble a lot.

Playing in time is arguably one of the toughest things to do for a musician. It takes time and practice. Good luck and don't give up!
