I saw it listed on Craigslist here [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

I called the police and while waiting for a call back (I am still waiting BTW) I get a call from Illinois. It is a trucker who said he bought my bass in modesto Sunday afternoon (it was stolen Sunday morning) and was thinking it was stolen. He called the local paper to see if it has been listed in a lost bass ad. She said no but she checked craigslist for him and found an ad my friend put in the lost and found section for me. He got my number from the ad and called me.

He is shipping it to me UPS and I said I would pay for shipping and refund him the $85:eek::eek::eek: he paid for it from the tweaker who stole it.

This may just redeem my faith in humanity.......:hmm:

On the upside I do have the perps email address from the CL ad. How can i find out who it belongs to?

YES!!! Awesome news!

Turn the address over to the cops, and keep the trucker's contact info so he can be a witness. Unless, of course, you'd rather not involve the cops, and just use that address and handle things on your own...... :ninja:

So it's on its way back? Sweet!

Don't know if there's much that can be done about busting this guy, though. You have an email address, but anonymous web email accounts like yahoo can be tough to track. Your local p.d. may not want to put in the time or money to track him down.
On the other hand...you could try smoking this guy out. Email him with a response saying you really want the bass. Offer to meet him somewhere, then politley explain the differences between your Stambaugh and a Spector while whipping his naughty bits with the ball end of a B string.

On second thought...smoking him out would be a bad idea. You know the guy is a thief. He may say he still has the bass just so he can rob you; in which case, he'll prorbably show up armed.

And wth? As if listing it as a Spector wasnt bad enough, he asks $1000 and takes $85?

True:( Happened to me in New Haven while I was unloading from my truck. I had just brought my cabs into the apartment; when I came out, my bass and amp were gone...

The bass was recovered from a pawn shop, but the amp was not.

Woohoo! I'm glad that website worked!!!!!!! Let the police find the guy using the e-mail. If you find him first, you'll just end up getting yourself in trouble (I know I would). Glad it all worked out!!!!! Score one for the good guys!!!!!!!

Thanks guys, I won't relax until it is in my hands but I am a little calmer now :hyper:

The cops don't seem that interested so all I can do is give them the info and hope. I can't do anything myself due to the fact that it was ripped off from my driveway i.e. they know where I live :hmm:

plus i am too darn old for that crap, asswhippen is for the young folks :D

How is the trucker going to get his money back? Seems kinda fishy to me. I think the trucker may be the one who stole it and saw the ad on CL and that kinda shook him up because he wouldn't be able to sell it so easily.

I'm just sayin'....I've been known to be wrong before. :hiding:

N/M, saw the rest of it, good thing you found it...


BTW trucker stealing it is a bad point. I'd imagine you'd hear the 18 wheeler trying to get away from the robbery. Not the quietest machines and I am sure he can sell it for much more in IL and no one in Modesto will ever know.
