I admit, I did not click your bartolini link! You're of course correct that there are other designs that would allow coil splitting with humcancelling between standard single and both split-humbucker-sides. Another idea would be to have a custom dual coil made where both coils under the hood are traditional jazz pickup coils, but in the same polarity, so both are rprw with the separate standard jazz pickup coil in the other position, then they just wouldn't cancel hum between each other in dual-coil mode.

I saw the "neck pickup" being duscussed between the OP and you in those earlier posts, but I was thinking specifically about the doublecoil in the bridge position, since the OP's issue was that he accidentally had the bridge pickup in the 70s position

If it were 8-conductor, a tetris-P option could be added, wherein it and the J would hum-cancel (at least in part).

OP here - Please note I never said the bass was too bright. I was just laughing at myself for having missed such a big detail

My real problem is this bass was supposed to replace my 'Ray build or one of my P builds but as I go back and forth, each gives a unique tone that I'm having trouble letting go of.

I do not need 5 basses. I don't even want 5 basses, yet here I am with 5 basses and having trouble prying any of them out of my own hands.

Yeah, Talkbass has this effect on people... at least it did on me. If you only have 5 basses, you're doing pretty good.
