I can smell glue?

Hi all, I've just bought a new acoustic bass around £400,

and I've had it a couple of weeks now but more recently I've started to smell a strong odour of what I can only compare to super glue, paint stripper or some other strong solvent smell whenever I take it out.

Is this normal on some guitars, should I be worried and what is it/could it be ?

cheers for any help

Jamie

It's very possibly from the glues used in the case. Air it out for a while.

People who buy Gibsons often smell a "vanilla" smell for a while, usually due to aldehydes used in the glue in the cases as well (but sometimes due to a solvent type occasionally used in the lacquer itself). Vanillin, the thing that gives smell and flavor to vanilla, is an aldehyde.
