People who say punk bassists suck have clearly never heard London Calling by The Clash.

They have also propably never heard the Minutemen.

If you watch the DVD Classic albums Never Mind the Bollocks, recording ,the engineer talks of how Steve played all the bass..."Panzer Division"(Chris Thomas says)..even though he tried to include one track with Sid.

I was blown away by how tight the band was and great Matlock played in the reunion tour in the 90s ....as I missed them the first time round...I was a bit too young

For those trying to cop Steve Jones's guitar sound, it is simply Gibson double humbuckers into a cheap "Bad Monkey" overdrive pedal on 'set-and-forget" pushing a Fender Twin Reverb.

Always a pleasure talking about this stuff, the soundtrack to my teens.

Here's a wild post for the 1980 PIL show I pulled off an alley wall (with thanks to the Missus and the dog for their appearance).

Yeah, I only ever met Steve once, a post-gig meet-and-greet almost 20 years ago when he was backing Michael Des Barres in a side project, but he was certainly gracious on that occasion. And agreed, his persona is quite winning in the various Pistols artifacts. There's a great bit somewhere where he and Paul Cook visit a pie and chips shop, and they revert to being hungry little kids right before your eyes, most telling...

One of my favorite bits of lore about Steve is the apparent fact that he has willfully duped more than one hardcore Sex Pistols fan into privately buying a facsimile Gibson from him on the assurance that it was a Pistols-era original. (I know that guitar forgery is TB's ultimate sin, so don't tase me, bros, but I still find it funny).

Steve Jones was involved with Los Angeles radio station Indie 103. He was always a gentleman and was well liked by fellow staffers. Unfortunately the station changed to Spanish format somewhere in 2010. He had his own show, Jonses Jukebox, which was very entertaining. That was my favorite station.

Dude, it's punk, it's a personal thing, other punks may well have seen some legitimacy to the thread without Chris Walters name showing up on the photo, and for some, Chris' name would have been the nail in the coffin, still others would go Chris Who?

But spirited discussion about what does or does not constitute punk can be some of the punkest moments you can ever be involved in.
