Notice how much he shifts. Because he cares about the timbre . That is why I never agree with folks that say that a 5 or 6 means less shifting. Not necessarily true and even if it s , your tone may not be appropriate for the song or groove
I didn't know Nathan played bass on Kenny Loggin's "Footloose". Liked the song, loved the bass, never sat down to learn it.
Until last year when I was called for a fill-in (modern country). Already knew most of the songs, had to learn about 10 new ones, which included "Footloose".
Found the Loggin's version (Nathan) and Blake Shelton version (bass player Mike Brignardello). Mike kept the full flavor of Nathan's basslines, and still added a bit of his own style. Both had some neat moves to copy/emulate. Gotta say, that song took me the longest to get smooth.
Only did 3 fill-ins with that band, but I had a ball playin' that song LOL. Fun song and gets the dancers up.
But Nathan was the original and I never knew it 'til last year. It only came out in 1984 LOL

I did a sub gig a few weeks ago and Footloose was one of the songs!! No rehearsal and no notice I had to play it. Good thing I knew the song in my head but I've never played it before. I think I did a decent job. I got through it.
