I don't Get It...

Not to jack the thread, but it is interesting that certain brands never really get exposure or break into the bass market even with a good product. Another example of this is Hughes & Kettner. They have quite the guitar amp following and make some good bass amps. I have the Bass Base 600, it's a hybrid that kills. I never read or hear any talk about H&K. Not even on this forum.

When I wanted a big cab I wanted a Ampeg so I saved up my money and bought a 8x10 which I got for $600 basicly new from GC just was a floor model and had 1 good rip in the tolex, we superglued it back up and now its almost imposable to find, but befor this I had a fender rumble 15, which was great just not enough power for my rock band, but its all just a matter of prefrence to what you like Iv always wanted that fat hit you in the face like a sledge hammer tone so I went with ampeg, and If the marshals give you the tone you want,(And dont light on fire when you turn em on haha) I say buy them, cause if you dont and get something your not sure you wanted your gona be kicking yourself for it in the long run

Off-topic, but you used commas and other forms of punctuation...how hard is it to use a period or a capital letter?

:rollno:

Many people don't think the MG series is worth the money that they are asking for them, and for the tone that they have I couldn't agree more.

Bingo.. and...

My beef with Marshall is that they're overpriced.

bingo again.

Of course, I am going to add a huge disclaimer here, as almost all of my experience with their stuff pertains to guitar amps. But it still rings very true from my recollection... their stuff was good, even beloved by a few, but it was just insanely priced back in the day. You could get 3 different heads (decent ones, too, not junk) for what you'd pay for one Marshall.

Sorry to go old man here, but I really think it's their advertising and marketing where your dollar is going, not necessarily to better quality equipment. They seemed to be able to convince most of the guitards in my day that you really haven't made it or were not to be taken seriously until you owned or could afford a Marshall. Probably by getting a good chunk of professional rock bands to line them up on the stage behind them.

As a guitarist, I thought they were ok... but overrated and over-priced.

Marshall have made some very good bass amps but they are all, all tube
heads and yes Jimmy their cabs where not a patch on ampegs or Sunn cabs loaded with altec's and jbl's ETC.
The real problem seemed to be that celestion did not produce a modern edge wound voice coil driver until the sidewinder in the mid eighties.
Also they did not get a really decent ten inch bass driver until the 10/80
came out.
Fred Freedline of Trace Elliot had a lot to do with pushing celestion bass guitar driver design also on the Celestion side Ed Form the former technical director was responsible for perfecting flat wire voice coil production.
My early marshall bass rig sounded good but I ran Goodmans loudspeakers until I too discovered the advantage of Lansing designed
drivers and cabs:

1972 and I really wanted a Marshall Major but could only afford a JMP Super bass 100
But I ran KT88's in that with great success for many years.:D

As someone else said, I haven't really seen any Marshall bass bashing on here either. As far as them being overpriced?? Ordered a new MBC410 and it was on my doorstep in 4 days for $600 and its quite a cab (great sound, no rattles, well built) seems in line and even less expensive than many other brands. I prefer to rackmount my stuff and if Marshall would have offered the 450 head in a rackmount version I would certainly have considered it also (Have a MB150 "for sale" and am very familiar with the Modern and Classic channels), tho I'm MORE than happy and feeling lots of love for my M6 Carbine...:)
