I don't know if I can do this...

So, I have a buyer for my Warwick Corvette $$ - meeting him tomorrow.

But... I just don't know if I can go through with the sale. I love this bass. The reason I'm selling is that I badly need the cash... I'm looking at pretty dire problems this month if I don't sell.

And, it's not like I don't have other basses... I have two, a 4 and a 5, I gig them both. I don't gig the Wick, because it's to damn nice!

Has anyone else ever felt this way? What to do? I'm torn... and less than 24 hours until she's gone

You're right... there may be another one along one day. This was the first instrument I ever truly valued... even if I felt like (and still do feel like) it's way too good for my mediocre playing.

I just wish I didn't need the cash so badly. Got a good price though. And I don't have room for 3 basses and my rig.

I also feel like I can't justify owning when I won't gig it... my other basses are more than sufficient.

Damn... I don't wanna get attached to another bass ever

I don't really get the 'won't gig it because its too nice' because that means you bought a bass to resell it in a sense. Make the Warwick your life partner, and sell the other lowlier basses. You can always pick up replacement when things turn around. I gig about 5 nights a week, often with a Fender Custom Shop bass that I will never sell because I connect with each and every scratch and ding on her + she just sounds incredible. Basses are for playing. Best wishes!

Listen to the man ^^^^

At the age of 21 I purposely sought out to buy one bass that I would keep with me no matter what.
I went through a local music shop , called up Pedulla and ordered a ET-quilt top thunderbass .
I've owned and sold several top & mid level basses . I still have my Pedulla . I've gigged almost every gig with it, drug it across the country & beat it up ( with the dings and scratches to prove it ). It has ALWAYS delivered!! For the past 15 years it has always been there and it will have to be pried out of my cold dead hands once I pass.

I know what you guys mean, and I totally hear you.

The other two basses are great, but I don't think I'd get anywhere near the same amount for those two together

Argh. Why on earth do we bassists get so attached? Or is it just me?

If anyone's interested, I thought I'd provide an update...

I couldn't go through with the sale. I called the buyer and was straight with him, and although he was understandably disappointed, he understood completely.

Now I just have to get over my ridiculous fear of it being stolen or broken and just play it at gigs! Any suggestions on how to stop being so paranoid about it?

I also was paranoid to play the first wick i ever owned....however once i gigged with it...i got so many compliments on the bass as well as the sound that i never wanted to gig with another bass......till it got stolen while i was on vacation =( just make sure on your breaks during gigs to sit and have a drink or whatever where you can see it at all times....i even put mine behind my rig while i wasnt using it so i could use the restroom!
*PARANOID MUCH* good thing i had a tall enough rig!

cheers and have fun gigging that thing!

Dont forget....all bass guitars were made to play....no bass is too good to play live. unless it an antique.

Man, I am going through the same thing, but on a much much smaller scale.
Get this, I have my first bass ever, a Gio Ibanez. My parents bought it for me 10 years ago now (I'm still pretty young :P), anyways, as I have another bass on order and 3 in my room I am currently contemplating clearing them out.

I probably will end up keeping it, because I am not going to die without the $100 bucks its worth, but bro even if your attached to it, you gotta pay the bills.

When buying my most recent guitar I made sure to get one that I would be happy with for a looong time and when my playing reaches it's level I can mod it and make it better. I never plan to sell that thinline telecaster..... If the house was on fire I would grab it first, then if I had time, my gigging bass (the schecter).

I love that guitar and gig/ travel with it.

I'm not really attached to either of my basses at the moment. I really wanna sell them and get a nice jazz bass.

Talk about paranoid? I put my bass in my gig bag and wear it on my back when I use the restroom. It's always either in my hand or on my back. I don't think I'm ever more than a foot away from my bass at a gig.

Yes, acknowlege the fact that you are being materialistic about it. Accept the fact that it's NOT good to be that way about it. Then MAKE YOURSELF pack it up and take it the next gig and play it FIRST. Bring another one (or both) as backups but MAKE YOURSELF play the Wick for the first set...JUST DO IT!

I think once you break through that mental wall, you'll be "a free man" as they say.
