Guinness was a Fall/Winter beverage for me when I lived up North. There's nothing like a Guinness at the 19th hole after a Saturday of golf in October. Autumn leaves, friends and college football with a Guinness in hand...

From Roger's Profasnisaurus:
Irish alarm clock:
Ten pints of Guinness. From the fact that a night on the black stuff more often than not leads to horrific, involuntary bowel movements which cause one to wake up early the next morning. "I hope you don't sleep in tomorrow. You're piloting a Space Shuttle up to the International Space Station, remember." "Don't worry dear. I've set my Irish alarm clock."
oh and guinness export is good, that's 7.5% for those of you keeping score at home.
I can do the Draught, but not a big fan of Extra Stout.
Just not a big fan of extra bitter beers... don't really like IPA's, either.
I started homebrewing in 1989 and I've made more batches of stout than all other types of beer combined. Guinness in a bottle was my go-to beer when I was drinking store bought and they didn't really fill me up until a few bottles after the first six-pack.
Then about 5 years ago, stout lost it's specialness. Now I'm into lighter bodied beers like brown ales and porters.
BTW, if you want to drink a really chewy beer that is more food than beverage, this is the stuff:

Samuel Smith's Imperial Stout
You could patch your driveway with it.![]()
It seems to me that you can get much better beer now in the US than you could when I first visited, quite a few years ago. At that time, all the beer I got was pretty much tasteless fizzy water - now you serve some really great brews over there.
fosters I prefer
There's only 126 calories in a bottle of Guinness draught. By comparison, there's a 160 in a bottle of Sam Adams.
