I don't slap...

Its ok if you don't, slapping is just another way to get a different sound out of your bass, some people over do it, i personally do it and like it, but we are all different, anything in moderation is usually good.....key word moderation.
 
I am a bass player that doesn't always play slap bass but I do when it fits in or is part of the music. The old song from the early 80's "just the Two of Us" was the first song i started to play in a slap and pull style. No crime and now the slap sound is part of everday commercial music. You are really closer to playing the bass like a drum with this approach and it sounds real cool in songs where its called for......................you can't be narrow-minded and call yourself a well-rounded musician.....:cool:
