You're not alone in this. I gave it a shot. I've no feel at all for making this technique work, rhythmically and in the kind of music that I play. It just doesn't do it for me!

Its ok if you don't, slapping is just another way to get a different sound out of your bass, some people over do it, i personally do it and like it, but we are all different, anything in moderation is usually good.....key word moderation.

The first time I sucessfully slapped a song out on bass was the first time I was doing the art of bass justice. Slap is one of those things that can be done on bass and not guitar.

I don't play much slap in my band, but I do enjoy it. If anything it's great practice for endurance and coordination.

Slap is often an "acquired" taste, much like wine or champagne. An immature palette would truly not care for such things.

I am a bass player that doesn't always play slap bass but I do when it fits in or is part of the music. The old song from the early 80's "just the Two of Us" was the first song i started to play in a slap and pull style. No crime and now the slap sound is part of everday commercial music. You are really closer to playing the bass like a drum with this approach and it sounds real cool in songs where its called for......................you can't be narrow-minded and call yourself a well-rounded musician.....
