I don't understand.. Enlighten me?

I cut the blend knobs wires so it was like it wasn't even there. Then I took the wires and wired it to the switches following the diagrams yougave me and it still killed one pickup signal. Then I too the switch out if the picture. I manually tied the wires together following your "what the pickups would look like in series" diagram and it killed the same pickup signal. So I'm not sure that these pickups in this bass can be wired into series using the traditional diagrams way because my experiment proved that the blend knob and switch are not to blame. AND to help support my idea, the jaguars stock wiring diagram for series parallel doesn't follow your diagram at all. AND it has an actual out in the up position too. I'll get a link of the stock jaguar wiring

you said you have a jag right? Invade you don't, the series parallel switch is one of the three in thetop right corner of the picture. The last one towards the bottom to be exact. Notice both positions have an out aswell as the usual in
 
Initially, I think it probably is the same, they just have the other two switches added in a way that looks a little funny to me. I think they effectively swap the neck and bridge pickups and the bridge is first in series, though.

I know you're probably frustrated by now. I've got some songs to work on tonight for an audition, and then I have to work tomorrow. Give me a little time and I'll get back to you tomorrow.
 
well, i left this out because with stock wiring it doesnt touch the series parallel switch, but i took the preamp on off switch and put it down there and its working perfectly. and since i moved the bass and tremply into knobs stacked by the volume and treble knobs, the whole top control plate will be reaplaced by a custom pickguard that i plan on getting after this whole mess with the switches is over with. thanks a ton for your help man, ill definately owe you one once this is all done. just for the time youve been taking out to help me is actually enough to owe you one lol thanks.

Each pickup works, one at a time, alone, without the other one? :)

Not trying to be a jerk, but one being dead is a common reason series would give no signal. I was thinking you might just be getting one pickup while both are in parallel.

If you want to be sure, lightly tap the pole pieces with a coin or key; you should hear a click through the amp if it's ok.
 
lol thanks man but i may not be the best at wiring, but im not the worst. when the series switch is set to parallel they both work together, and they both work alone. ive tapped them and everything. any other ideas? ill try them gladly if i havent

Are you saying when you have both pickups in series with no switches you get no signal?

But you do get a separate signals from both pickups when tested one at a time with no switches?
 
yes with or without the switch and with or without the blend, series doesnt work for some reason. but both pickups work in parallel together or alone. i just installed FCS 60's pickups which came with grounding plates so yes. before i got these new pickups i didnt have grounding plates.

You have two pickups, one (pickup #1) has its ground soldered to a pot or something, the other (pickup #2) has its ground loose so you can get series by connecting it to the hot lead from the other pickup (the one grounded to the pot).

Is the plate for the pickup with the loose ground (pickup #2) soldered to any wire coming from the pickup?

If yes, I think that's your problem, and disconnecting the plate from pickup #2 should allow both pickups to work in series.

Edit: What happens is when in series the hot signal from pickup #1 gets grounded instead of going into pickup #2.
 
neck pickup ground goes to the volume pot with other grounds. the hot goes to the series parallel switch like it should. then the neck pickup ground goes to the series parallel and the hot goes straight to the kill switch. both grounding plates each have one ground wire, and they go to the volume pot. and yes, the two grounding plates wires that go to the volume pot do make contact with eachother, and they do make contact with the ground from the bridge pickup.
 
That makes no sense. You have the neck ground going to a pot, then you have the neck ground going to the s/p switch. Was that a typo?

Anyway, I think you need to loose the ground plate for the pickup which has its ground going to the s/p switch.

You need to end up with this:

One pickup will remain grounded at all times. The hot lead from that pickup goes to the s/p switch.

The other pickup has its hot lead soldered to the volume pot and its ground lead goes to the s/p switch. Also, the plate from this pickup should be disconnected because I think it'll ground the signal when in series.
 
You can leave the plate on the pickup that's always grounded. It doesn't hurt anything.

The plate on the pickup which has its ground going to the s/p switch should be removed because it's grounding out the signal when the pickups are in series (I think).
 
what if i leave the plate but cut the ground wire coming from the plate completely?
an ungrounded plate becomes an antenna, adding noise instead of reducing it!

just ground both plates, each with their own wire going to the back of a pot, and make sure they're totally disconnected from the pickups.
 
oh wow i feel like a huge idiot.. im sorry guys really. when i grabbed the ground wire to attach it to the series parallel switch from the neck pickup i accidentally grabbed the plates wire that came from the same hole since they looked exactly the same.. this whole time that was the problem.. the only thing good i can say is im releived and thanks to you guys and a ton of experimenting i learned a ton about wiring. so thanks for the help guys and sorry for bugging you. if you guys ever have a problem you think i may be able to help with send me a message i owe you guys.
