By he, I mean John Patitucci. I see a lot of love for Palladino, Gary Willis, Victor, Marcus, etc... but not so much for JP. Everything I've heard and seen from him is off the charts. He is definitely not one dimensional, and blows my mind every time. I'm beginning the process of incorporating transcribing him into my practice routine. It has only been a catalyst to boost my admiration for him. Just curious, if anybody else has noticed this.

JP might be the best there is, if such a thing were quantifiable. He’s definitely in the same room as the other greats who may be getting more mentions.

I’m so glad to see this today!
I’ve recently found his YouTube channel and have been going through almost all his videos. Thud Staff posted a video of his electric quartet and this piece in particular was the one where I was like….MAN, that’s just some good bass playing with a fat Pbass sound from that Yamaha (grant it, the sound guy did an awesome job here).

He can play all the complex fusion jazz stuff to full on bass solos but here he’s laying the groove and making the band sound spectacular!

He is not under-rated. And personally I put him on a higher level than the guys you listed. Maybe on par with Marcus (Marcus does compose more ). But Marcus is blessed by playing with and composing for Miles Davis and everyone who has played with Miles have illustrious success (not just money or fame ) as creative improvising musicians. The guys you listed will have a hard time playing with Chick Corea. I am talking about harmony, melodically, improvisation wise. They might but I just don't see it. Don't use popularity specially TB popularity as a gauge of how great a musician is. I feel blessed attending some of his clinics back in the day. He is a paisan too.
