I got a new Yamaha TRBX304 and I am going to change strings on it. I have been using Fender Flatwounds on my Ibanez basses . But on my Yamaha I would like to try another brand of flatwounds but I like to stay close to the Fender price to maybe $35.00 if that’s possible I can get Fender flats for $27.00 are close to it. But I would go just a little higher . So what strings would you guys suggest, I like the sounds of flats plus they are suppose to be easier on your frets.

I would suggest trying GHS Brite Flats.

I had a Yamaha TRB 1005 years ago, and was liking D'Addario half round strings on it... flat-feeling exterior, but a little brighter tone than pure flatwound strings. I no longer have that Yamaha bass, but on other basses, I have since come to like the GHS version of those strings, GHS Brite Flats, better than the D'Addarios.

I got two sets of Ernie Ball Group IV (40-95) stainless steel flats for $30 USD ea. I like them on my P bass so far.

I mentioned earlier about the Ernie Ball Stainless Steel Flats that are on my P bass right now.

GHS Brite Flats are what's on my Jazz bass right now, and I'm really starting to appreciate their tonal quality now that I've had a chance to play them in a live band setting earlier this evening. Punchy presence in the mix without being too upfront or aggressive, they can hold down the groove in a nicely supportive way.

I use D'Addario Chromes on all my basses. They are more expensive than the Fender flats, but I like them better than the Fenders. They have almost a roundwound sound to them when new and they keep that hi end zing as they age. But I will say Fender flats are a close second to the Chromes.

I've never used the Harley Benton flats, but I checked shipping to my address and it was $28. This brings the total to around $42 for the Harley Benton flats. I would not buy these.

I'm 72. I have 3 bass guitars with T-I Jazz flats. The initial cost is high, but assuming they last like the double bass strings from T-I, I'll never have to change strings again unless one breaks.

Next time you take a picture of your new bass, use the rear camera.

I used EB cobalt flats on my portamento and love the sound. They are bright , seem to last awhile, mine are going on 1 year, also tension feels like round wounds so I dont notice it going from bass to bass.

I was reading the specs on my Yamaha TRBX304 bass and they use DAddario EXL from the factory on them. I have decided to buy this payday some DAddario Flatwounds for it and put on it .

Make sure it's ECB81 without the M at the end. "M" is for medium scale. Your Yamaha is long scale (34").

D'A Chromes ECB81 (45-65-80-100) was the first set of flats I'd ever tried, which I found very uneven in feel with tight G and D and relatively loose A and E.

I ended up switching to ECB84 (40-60-80-100) for better balance in overall feel.

I finally decided on a set of flats for my bass , I have been using Fender flats for years and wanted to try something different. So I bought a set of Daddarios for it thought might give them a try. They are suppose to be here today can’t wait to try them on my Yamaha TRBX304.
