I got nuthin over 13,770

My daughter just downloaded a dog whistle app on her tablet. You can change the frequency from 2,000 incrementally up to 20,000. I can hear 13,770. Any higher I can't hear a thing. My kids say they're getting it up to about 19,400, then nothing, and the dogs are indicating it is putting out at 20,000. Wow I had no idea I was so far gone....

I would be tempted to turn it on when they aren't expecting it as a test to see if they can really hear it. Young humans lie like crazy and never pass up an opportunity to screw with dad. Not saying your kids are bad or anything, so don't get pissed at me. I'm only the messenger.

You have a point. I'm just blown away by how much I'm not hearing. I really tried to hear it, though. I didn't even know if I actually had the tone turned on or off. ZILCH. I had no problem at 13,770, but the next step up, nothing. Now I'm thinking I should go see a pro and determine if there's need for concern. Too bad my wife's voice isn't that high....

I've heard of ring tones like this that only young ears can detect. I guess so we can't hear their phone ring.

No, it is NOT normal to only hear up to 15k at 23.
You should hit close to 20k at the very least. It's time to think about protecting your stuff.

See an audiologist and get an exam if you want accurate numbers.

You're not going to have anywhere near a uniform response so I wouldn't fret too much about it

I'm almost 54 and I can't quite hear 12K....I used to be able to hear up to 20K, when I was in my 20's. Not any more.

I'm 29 and I can bearly hear anything from my right side.

A vein got ruptured or something in the right ear, wrong treatment and I'm half deaf in the right ear. Oh, there's the tinnitus too, it's been ringing for the last 8 years.

At first I was afraid to check the link thinking I might not be able to hear it. 60 yo and hear it loud. Been playing in bands on and off since I was 13 with no ear plugs. Also, many hours behind the mixing board with pretty loud monitors. Is there such a thing as good ear genetics? If so, maybe I got them. Just sayin.

Hearing damage sucks big time. I've had tinnitus since forever from some nasty infections as a child. I can still hear the top ranges of violins and piccolos etc. so I'm not too concerned but can't pick up the nice tingly harmonics of certain cymbals or a lot of high range in electronic music.

I don't think there's much one can do about reversing hearing loss but preventing more damage is certainly possible. I take earplugs and musician's earplugs to any event that may be a tad too loud.

A bit afraid to download the app. I might not bust 12k.
