Before I retired, I used to have to get a physical every year. Included was a hearing test. If we failed any part of the physical, we were in danger of losing our job/career. During the hearing exam, I'd have to press a button when I'd hear tones (which would vary in interval, volume, pitch, etc.). Sometimes I'd just guess and hit the button (thinking, "Well, it's about time for another tone!"). ;)

Fortunately, I made it through till my retirement date... :cigar:

The subsonic range is more fun. I had a home stereo subwoofer that (according to the numbers around the frequency knob) could go down to 2Hz. The only music that even approached the bottom of that range was a few of Mick Harris' solo Scorn albums. With the subwoofer off, you could hear down to a certain point, but with it on, you started to feel the house shake from the frequencies you couldn't hear.

Damn right. Who needs to hear "the timbre of cymbals" and poopie, when subterranean rumbling of hatred is where it's at. Kids these days...

I always thought it would be a really funny prank to remove all the bolts from a car with a huge subwoofer system one by one and put them back in loosely and with WD40 in the threads instead of locktight so it would rattle itself apart when the system got cranked. Maybe I should make an urban legend out of someone doing that so they'll try it on Mythbusters. It would take forever to do that by oneself.

How many bolts in a car? Too many. But I get what you're saying.
