I picked up my first one on e-bay a couple months ago, that's after bidding on dozens and dozens of them & searching for the "one." Keep trying...your next bass is out there, just waiting for you.

My sniper program works even if my computor is not on.... I've rarely lost an auction using it. It'll keep bidding until either the bid goes over your entered max bid or time runs out. The only instances I've lost is when I didn't program a high enough max bid. You can set it to kick in at any point in the countdown. I set mine with 5 seconds left. Seems to me I recall one auction where it made 8 bids with 5 seconds left... And the computor wasn't even on !!
I don't really understand the point of sniping so it doesn't really piss me off. At the end of the day if you set a price you are willing to pay and stick to it, it really doesn't matter when you make the bid - the proxy bidding will keep going for you. As someone said, choose the max you are willing to pay, then add 10% to cover for people beating you by 50 cents and stuff. If you get beaten then someone is obviously simply willing to pay more, it doesn't matter when you bid at all. Thats why I like ebay.
So I was bidding on the perfect bass for me, one which had every single thing in it that I wanted:
LP Body
5 String
Active EMGs
Full Scale
Set Neck
Been bidding on it for two days, been in the lead for almost 24 hours. Even put in more than I really wanted to pay for it so that if I fell asleep it would automatically up my bid for me.
So I sit here, and my bid gets outdone, so I up it some more. Last couple minutes, I refresh every couple seconds to check. 30, 27, 19, 3... I was still in the lead. JUST IN CASE, I entered a quick increase. By the time I finished, time was up, and in that split frikkin second, some ass hat outbid me.
I am bloody well pissed off. I have so little cash to begin with, when I get the opportunity to actually get EXACTLY what I want at a reasonable price, I get real excited and invested in it.
Now I don't know what I am going to do. If this jerk who outbid me goes and reposts it, i am going to be so ticked I won''t even be able to express the levels of my anger.

A lot of people put a lower bid than they're actually willing to pay. This is why sniping works, as it doesn't give anyone an opportunity to raise their maximum bid.
