I have a dumb question about gig bags.....

Yeah so what's new...I have a dumb question

When wearing a gig bag backpack style, is it meant to be used upside down? Like with the headstock pointing towards the ground?

Otherwise, they stick up above your head like 3 feet making doorway entry impossible. I have like 8 bags and they all are like this.

The one exception is my Roscoe gig bags. The top of those bags is right at head level and to me is the best designed bag I've used. Is Roscoe just that much smarter, or am I doing something wrong?

Have you tried lengthening the shoulder straps so it hangs a bit lower on your back?

Regarding your question, why it's considered worse to wear it neck downwards...hey.. have you ever seen any bass/guitar stands that holds the basses or guitars neck down? Same principle. If you wear it with the heaviest weight on top, it would fly around like a pendulum to the left and right much more. It wobbles, and wiggles.

There are many that you can't lower them enough.

FTR, I 100% agree with Bongo. I always feel like Herman Munster with one of those bags. I greatly prefer them to hang lower.

Being 6'2" it's just a part of life that I have to duck while going through some doors.

Also, I have a regular comedy bit I do where I forget to not put the gig bag on before I've gotten the amp out of the back of the SUV. Hilarity ensues when the bag's headstock invetibaly meets the hatchback door while reaching for the amp.

My Warwick gigbag stick out just a little like no more than 6inch over my head it looks less studpid and you don't get stuck in doors way like I did so many times with my last gigbag

Oh, without a doubt! It did help me with the inexpensive TKL bag I sometimes use. YMMV.

So, I'm 6'2", I have a decent, padded gig bag that I use when going to school / etc. I definitely have to duck when going through residential doors, but it becomes habit relatively quickly.

Since you mentioned a double gig bag, i just got the ProTec double bag and im 5'10" it only comes maybe 6"-8" over my head when i wear it on my back. I usually on wear one strap though so i can lower it instead of ducking.

i've heard of doing it upside down to make it look like a backpack when "sneaking" it onto an airplane as a carry on.

The Fender bags seem like the worst in that regard. I'll hit doorways I would normally clear if I'm carrying one of those.
