I normally go by a last minute gauge of my own feelings towards the gig and my basses then I just pack it up and go. But I have an idea, make your GF or someone other than you fill the gig bag with the basses. Surprise opening at the sound check

I love all four basses, all are appropriate for the genre, and all are for once in tip top shape (strings, setup, etc). Do I pick at random and be surprised or try to find some weird way to differentiate two from the others?

Once a player finds The ONE, this is entirely possible.
It was pretty simple for me.

Was even looking at a better version of my One earlier, but then found out it weighs 5 lbs. more, so that idea quickly fled.

Pick your two least used/most questionable basses. If they aren’t good enough to pass the gig test easily, you can sell them.

Just bring a PBass if you have one. Might not be the absolute best choice. But it definitely won't be the wrong one. PBs work with just about everything. And at gig volume levels through the FOH it usually doesn't make that big a difference what your're playing most gigs.
