Yeah, sorry for the derail. I forgot to say: nice rig! I really want to own one of the old-school lead sled GKs someday. Every one I've tried has sounded fantastic, but I've never ended up with one for some reason.

For you maybe. For others, with age comes age related issues, medical issues, etc. It's not our business to pry into why. If a poster says they're getting too old to schlep heavy stuff, the "old" part is often shorthand for "I've got issues that come with age that are none of your business". Not everyone is blessed with even average health for their given age.

What is a beatable rig?

OP, how do you like the rolling SKB rack? Any rattles or buzzes from the moving parts when you crank things? Does it look like it would hold up to dragging over sidewalks, etc.? Is this the rack?

Like a rig that you could use for a standing jam session rig that is good enough to take a beating and inexpensive enough that if some turd fries it youre out a couple hundred not 1000$+. My swr cabs are sturdy but if they get toasted then my odds of finding more are slim. That's all I meant

Gotcha! I've contemplated a rig like that and joked that there should be "nanny" circuits in amps for jams.

Mine is a discontinued version I found for only $120 at my local GC. I hear no rattling or clanging.

The only GK I've actually owned was a little MB200 (the modern mini-micro) I had briefly. When I was a kid, though, the 2000RB was the stuff of my tonal daydreams. When I finally got to play one, years later, they were largely validated. I felt like Flea - and I mean that in the best way. The little metal combos (couldn't believe how loud they were -- though there are louder, deeper small combos now, some of them made by GK) and 150 watt fanless heads (still prefer their tone to that of the MB200) were also pretty cool back in the day.

The 1001 RBs are by all accounts solid workhorses. I'm chasing slightly more exotic stuff these days, but if I needed an amp in a hurry that I knew I could adapt to quickly, get a useable sound with, and that would be present in a mix and reliable for a series of gigs, I wouldn't hesitate to use one.

The amp and cabs have nothing to do with the tone. It's all being channeled through the Darth Vader bobble-head. When you are ready, you won't need cabs.

Sweet rig. Being satisfied with your rig is a great feeling.

I'm 45 (with a 6yo son) and even though I work out hard (and ran a marathon last year) I am finding it a bit tougher every year to schlep the heavy stuff.
