I hope he has a good reason for no-show

Love the way this is written. When I read it, it sounded in my head like the narration you would hear in a movie when the character is having some inner monologue of thoughts to explain to the audience.

Or song lyrics:

We had an open mic tonight, the lead guitarist and I,
The guitarist didn't show up, nor did he say why,
I didn't bother messaging him,
As he can go days without answering,

Thankfully I have backing tracks for when I play alone,

I did a song he didn't know, one I'd never played live,
Maybe he has a good reason; maybe he's about to be fired,
I'd had a thought from nowhere that he's about to leave,
And I've learnt to listen to such thoughts.

That is awesome. If we can add a catchy chorus and a bridge, we got a hit!

Whatever his reason for the no-show, anyone who doesn't answer texts for days is not someone you should be wasting time with.

The thing is, not everyone is as fastidious (punctilious maybe?) as us bassists when it comes to reading and responding to texts, messages, email, mail, phone calls, etc. Even my own family members can be a bit slow, forgetful, or outright hush-hush when it comes to responding to a simple question. I've learned to accept it, with the occasional reminder.

The song is ready. If I make a million dollars, we'll make sure everyone gets a writing credit. :)

Open Jam Defiant (lyrics by themickster/Danny O Danny/Parzival/LBS-bass)

Verse 1

We had an open mic tonight, the lead guitarist and I,

The guitarist didn't show up, nor did he say why,

I didn't bother messaging him,

As he can go days without answering,

Pre-Chorus

Thankfully I have backing tracks for when I play alone

Chorus

Guitarist and I, we always have a problem

Guitarist and I, it just never works

Guitarist and I, why's it always like this?

Guitarist and I, they're always such jerks

Verse 2

I did a song he didn't know, one I'd never played live,

Maybe he has a good reason; maybe he's about to be fired,

I'd had a thought from nowhere that he's about to leave,

And I've learnt to listen to such thoughts

Pre-Chorus

Thankfully I have backing tracks for when I play alone,

Chorus

Guitarist and I, we always have a problem

Guitarist and I, it just never works

Guitarist and I, why's it always like this?

Guitarist and I, they're always such jerks

Bridge

Fire The Drummer

Fire The Drummer

Fire…………..The…………..Drummerrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Chorus

Guitarist and I, we always have a problem

Guitarist and I, it just never works

Guitarist and I, why's it always like this?

Guitarist and I, lord why they such jerks?

Got to play a bit of the other side here. An open mic? Not an actual gig you're billed to play at? Did you actually agree you would both go every week like it's a gig or just a casual "it'll be fun, let's hang there" kind of thing?

I have missed gigs, but the word "surgery" was in my reason for not being there, and I notified the others in advance. Not showing without notifying, unless the word "emergency room" is in the reason (and there are scars to confirm it), you really should find someone else. "Unreliable" is a disqualifying thing in any human team endeavor.

This is a relationship breaker. Unless he was incapacitated and can verify it, there is zero excuse. I have too many fire in the bottoms or I must have ate some bad fish stories to last a lifetime.

I messaged him today. He'd been busy and needed a night off. I can kinda take that but not that he didn't tell me. He couldn't even tell me until I asked him, and no 'Sorry'.

i wish i could like that post more than once!

I have a guitar player that is a PIA to get ahold of. I like to ask everyone before I book something if they are good with it? 2 will respond within an hour or two. Any time someone can't do it I won't book it. If I don't hear from him (GP) in a couple of hours like everyone else, and the other 2 have given the thumbs up, I book it anyway. If he had plans TS, we are booked, change your plans. It is a very annoying problem that has gone on too long! My fault for putting up with it!
