I have missed gigs, but the word "surgery" was in my reason for not being there, and I notified the others in advance. Not showing without notifying, unless the word "emergency room" is in the reason (and there are scars to confirm it), you really should find someone else. "Unreliable" is a disqualifying thing in any human team endeavor.

Three copies of a death certificate or a video of the funeral I would accept

I have a guitar player that is a PIA to get ahold of. I like to ask everyone before I book something if they are good with it? 2 will respond within an hour or two. Any time someone can't do it I won't book it. If I don't hear from him (GP) in a couple of hours like everyone else, and the other 2 have given the thumbs up, I book it anyway. If he had plans TS, we are booked, change your plans. It is a very annoying problem that has gone on too long! My fault for putting up with it!

Neither of us likes writing someone off. Push me too far, and I will.

We had an open mic tonight, the lead guitarist and I. He guitarist didn't show up, nor did he say why. I didn't bother messaging him, as he can go days without answering. Thankfully I have backing tracks for when I play alone. I did a song he didn't know, one I'd never played live. Maybe he has a good reason; maybe he's about to be fired. I'd had a thought from nowhere that he's about to leave, and I've learnt to listen to such thoughts.

It doesn't feel good to get ghosted.

One possibility to consider: The guy could have been kidnapped by a band of extreme Hare Krishnas that in their attempt to make him confess with deep throat-singing disabled his ability to speak. This, on top of an overwhelmed sense of awe due to the spirituality behind the whole episode, reduced the guy to his diminishest state.

Or he was high and forgot to connect.

It must be one of these two possibilities.

But he has shown he is the flake so he would be someone I'd worry about the next time.
Im not making a big deal of the Open mic, more of his commitment to do as he says so I'd be careful what I arranged in the future with him involved.
