So, i was enjoying listening to my remastered beatles abbey road, when my roommate came and got me and told me there are kids shooting up behind out house, where our parking spots are. I go outside, 3rd floor, so we are looking down on the culprits, and lo and behold, there is a car there. It is a relatively nice car, and inside are a group of thuggish white kids, with the light on tying their arms off. (probably from the suburbs)?

Now, i dont care that they are doing drugs, i just dont want that **** near my house. What would you do in this situation? I dont wana really call the cops because, i just dont feel like getting involved or having my house be a potential place for retaliation if they suspect i called the 5-0.

What neighborhood, if I may ask? I live in Chicago...

As for calling the cops, I completely agree, insofar as you can remain anonymous. You don't want to get caught calling the cops by the druggies themselves, since you don't know how they'd react.

I live a hair east of greek town but not quite in the loop. Kinda regret moving to where i did. I used to live in little italy and i just like the general atmosphere and felt safer there.

My ex-wife and I originally looked at a loft building practically under the Eisenhower on Canal St. It seemed like an odd place to live. We eventually bought our loft off Madison a couple blocks west of Halsted, right down the street from Haymarket (the rehab).

Residents of the rehab would go for "walks" and often hide out in our vestibule smoking joints or whatever, some of the women even turned tricks in our lobby!

In that neighborhood I'd recommend not getting directly involved, since the "element" isn't going anywhere and you just don't know who you're dealing with. Since you were advised calling the police wouldn't do much, I'm not sure what else to recommend...you could still try to call them, hopefully getting an increase in police presence enough to scare away the druggies, but I'm not sure you'll see much of a change.

As a side-note, when I lived in that condo, before we bought an indoor parking place (gotta love big cities for having to BUY a parking place and having to pay property taxes and condo assessments ON THE PARKING SPOT!!!), someone broke in to my old Blazer, which had tinted windows. It was clear they used my car as a living room in which to party. They left paraphernalia all around the car and it wreaked like nothing I'd smelled before!

I'm related to a Chicago cop by marriage. I'll ask her if she has any thoughts on how to address this and will get back to you.

If they didnt see you call the cops man F them. I could care less about people getting high smoking weed or something , heck most people have smoked weed at some point. Shooting up is another thing though, what if they OD right out there.

If you tell them to go or that the cops are coming they'll drive MEGA HIGH.

It could be argued that a person without proper logic skills and in a panic would flee (flight or fight) and there's a chance that YOU could be brought into court if an accident ensues.

Instead, why should you have to do anything besides dropping water balloons on their car?

Definitely call the cops. It's a criminal case, i.e. The State vs Druggie Losers, so it's okay to report anonymously.

Wrong. Without an official report, the PD won't bother. It's Chicago. They have real problems to deal with. If you file an official report,you will be identified by name, address, phone and possibly social security number. I used to be the crime reporter for a city newspaper, so I've read thousands of police reports. It's not like TV. There are no anonymous tips to the cops.
If you want to complain and you don't have any connections, use a throwaway cell to report the shooting gallery in your parking lot. If you want to go Charles Bronson, call a lawyer.

I didnt read through the whole thread. I just wanted to chime in. Sorry if this has been stated. If you dont wont them to come back, walk within eye sight, snap a picture of the license plate with the brightest flash you can find, then walk off. If they don't feel like it is a safe place to rush, they won't come back.
