I tried BOSS, Sansamp, DOD, Fulltone, you name them........ none of them gave me the satisfaction and Tone of the Darkglass VMT is giving me. Ad, that pedal, I have had it for more than three full years now, and it is still the best to my ears. To each his own, and for me, it is Tone heaven!!! The Ric and the Fender Precision and Jazz have never sounded as great!!!

It's primarily for double bass. I used to use a Darkglass pedal for EB but have shifted away from adding tones. Especially with double bass, I do more frequency reducing than adding for a natural sound. But in my dirty days, Darkglass was the way to go!

I have a bunch of Darkglass and Tech 21 pedals, but I love these three as well (plus others).

I wound up letting the Grizzly go in favor of the Damnation Audio MBD-1. The Grizzly is truly great, but the controls are really powerful so it could be tricky to dial in. The feature set and control range on the MBD makes it a better/easier fit for me.

Blower Box is classic. Same as the MBD, I love how it can sound great from barely-there warmth to full-on facemelt.

The Rusty Box is my most recent pedal addition: snagged the special Halloween build last month. It had been on my wish list for years. I figured I'd love it, and I do. I basically keep it set to low gain sparkle... and that's fine, I don't need more than one killer tone from a pedal (but I'm not saying the RB is a one-trick pony; that's just how I prefer to run it).



Variety is a great thing, and with stacking combos the possibilities become almost limitless. :bassist:

Has anyone ever used this one? Its marketed towards doom/stoner music I believe but there was a guy on YT doing Madonna's "Get Into The Groove" with it and it sounded just like the actual fat sawtooth synth from the original recording from 1984, as there was never any real bass guitar in her song. I don't know why its impossible to find this pedal for sale 2nd hand anywhere. Maybe all the Doomers are stoned and sleeping? It is a distortion pedal by all means.

I run a similar set up, have tried before and after with the AO. Just haven’t decided which way I like best yet.

This was definitely not marketed to Doom players, unlike what the name may imply- it’s the evolution of a pretty unique synthy fuzz made by a guy that caters to the funky/poppy crowd who is mostly known for a variety of envelope filters. I think it was designed specifically to do that kind of synthy funky sound you mentioned! It’s rare because it’s a one-man shop and he tends to build everything in batches. I hope to have one someday for sure- it is capable of some very unique textures!

I dropped out of the modded Tubescreamer cult a few decades ago to join the modded Rat cult, left that one to join the Sansamp cult, then dropped out of that one over a dozen years ago to join the DG cult. Now I have iterations of all of them (cult of versatility?) and have finally accepted that my taste must clearly be a reaction to some sort of hype or groupthink. I won’t even bring up all my years wasted in the Ampeg/Mesa/Fender/G&L/Rickenbacker cults my oh my I’m a lemming...I even still love pizza and cheeseburgers, oof...

Thanks for the info. I didn't know about the 1 man shop thing. Looks like he came out with a newer version of this pedal for around $250+ maybe, but Id seriously buy the one in the pic I posted, model #1, just for that synthy/funky sound. He pretty much nailed it whereas the saw tooth sounds out of the Boss Synth pedal are good but the problem is getting there. Seems like the boss pedal, SYB5, has really laggy tracking (I had one, sent it back) but his pedal, however the circuitry he uses to produce the saw wave, is instantaneous.

Were they different iterations if the same pedal line (like B3K-B7K-Ultra-MT amp)? I find all the pedal lines have pretty distinct tones, having owned most of them at some point. They are all pretty strongly voiced though, so if you aren’t into the particular color it imparts then you will likely be disappointed. Same goes for many “classic” tones though. Choose your flavor! I personally never vibe well with drive pedals that don’t have some distinct flavor

There's definitely a "Darkglass sound"! There is also Definitely a Dingwall NG3 + Darkglass sound, And to be honest, it's the best "Metal" tone I've ever heard and also the best Distortion tone I've ever heard! I can't think of anything that beats it. Definitely a Darkglass fan boy.

I just received that Q-Strip pedal 2 days ago, what a fantastic pedal! And I already have a Source Audio SA270 regular/parametric EQ pedal in my chain, along with the Q-Strip, but the Q-Strip is simple with its knobs.
