Double Bass I just installed my Fishman FC

Well, almost anyway. Everything went really smooth, no problems. I have a question for the folks that already have this installed and or the luthiers here.

The output jack came with the pieces to install it on the strings after the bridge, however it also came encased in a plastic sleeve with a zip tie running the length of it (no mention of this in the instructions). Is this an optional way of installing the output jack? ie zip tie through the string holes in tailpiece with the output jack hidden behind the tailpiece?

That must be a new thing. I just bought one a few months ago and it didn't come like that, but not being a fan of the traditional Fishman mounting, I improvised pretty much the same thing. Personally, I prefer having the jack hidden behind the tailpiece. I think that's a good thing if they are offering it as an option now. If were me, I would remove the nut that holds the old-style mount (between the strings kind) and mount the jack on the back of the tailpiece.

I just wish the wire wasn't white...

Well, i got a little impatient, walking by my bass on the dining room table, so i used the zip tie and mouted it behind the tail piece. i think this looks better than mounting it on the stings. not that the string mounted way looks bad. as for the white wire, it was mentioned in another thread that they had wrapped it in black electrical tape. looked better than white!

if anyone has an opinion on what a better mount job would be....please chime in!

I mounted my FC jack using a plastic restrainer held in place by the G string ball-end.

The mounting is on a EUB, but will work on an acoustic bass.

I use a very elegant little clip that I snagged off of a Barbera (when a $500 pick up coms down to a $.05 clip) basically the metal barrel snaps into it and it is held by super velcro onto the back of the tailpiece.
I don't really get FIshman sometimes...Here they have this great pick up and nobody likes the string mount or ugly white wire...why not just go the extra little bit and finish the job?

Did you buy your Full Circle from the Double Bass Workshop? They do this simple modification on the FC's they sell. Underwood has been using this type of mounting for the jack for at least 30 years, so it's nothing new.

Anyone can easily modify the existing output jack for their Full Circle with a piece of vinyl tubing from any hardware store and a re-usable wire tie which are available at many places that sell electric and electronic supplies. Carefully remove the nut from the jack and save it along with the washer and string mounting bracket. Slip a piece of vinyl tubing over the jack's body, then thread the wire tie between them. It will probably be more convenient to have the wire tie threaded so that its end sticks out by the RCA phono jack instead of at the 1/4-inch phone jack end. Thread the wire tie through two of the string slots in the tailpiece, and you're done.

I prefer the jack mounted in front of the tailpiece, but it can just as easily be mounted behind it using this same method.
