I like dead rounds...

I guess that nickel rounds that came stock on a 2001 60's Jazz would classifiy as old, huh ?? ... the best part of liking the really old ones, is people just hand them to you instead of throwing them in the garbage ... but, since you never change what you are using ... they just sit in the drawer waiting patiently ... :)

So after flip flopping a lot over the past year with strings I've come to realize I love dead rounds, specifically, dead stainless steel rounds, over flats. I'm not sure why..maybe its the funk that gets stored in the grooves of the rounds or what. But there's something else there that I don't find in flats.

Anybody else feel the same way?

I will, always and forever, take dead roundwounds over brand-spanking new flatwounds any day of the week, PERIOD!! The set of DR Fat Beams I have on my Cirrus were old and dead when I took them off of my former Warwick, and that was 6 months ago!! Love 'em.

I love fresh slinkys. I keep my tone pretty dark, so the slinkys help brighten things up a bit

I've found slinkys dull sounding compared to D'addarios. Slinkys out of the box sound like week old d'addarios. Speaking of which my pro steels have lost their initial high zing on them and have built up a nice heavy punch on the low end,but definitely still have a lot of brightness up top. Can't wait for another month with them.
