I love cheap basses!

Ok, I admit it, I like a inexpensive basses. I currently play the latest version of a Sterling ray 4 I got on sale for $269. I got it as a beater, but I have played it at every gig for almost 2 years. Restrung, adjusted the pickup height, and never quit playing it. I have been looking at selling the ray4, & my fender p, and getting a Ray34 and but the ray4 is solid. Anyone else like me?

Yeah man I have a squire affinity jazz that I swapped pups to fender custom shop and got a cheap mim precision that already came with upgraded pups. I love em both and both are inexpensive.

Though my taste in amps and electronics are expensive. I have an svt classic and also tend to go for expensive pedals.

It's funny I have several expensive basses and amps and my Warwick is my favourite, however my go to backup and probably my second favourite bass is my Squier Jag which is the cheapest bass I have purchased.

I tend to thrive in the Fender MIM-Squier CV price range. Not the cheapest, but certainly towards the bottom of the food chain. However, I have certainly found Affinities or Korean Peaveys that just kill it. Being able to swap my own parts and do touch up work has made a world of difference.

Oh, and I like cheap amps too.

Tonight I'm playing a stock Squier Jag PJ short scale that cost me a whopping $165. The only thing I've changed are the strings. I could be playing a more expensive bass, but for the next few weeks, this one is the one that will be in rotation.

AND I'm having fun!

I have a G&L JB2 Tribute. My wife got a screaming deal on it on clearance. The maple fingerboard has a nice grain and the burst finish is really nice. It's a little heavy, and the neck is a little thick for a jazz neck, but it isn't bad. I put HipShot UltraLite tuners on to help with staying in tune and a touch of neck dive. It isn't half bad. I could play it if I had to. I do take it out once in a while as it was a gift. I just prefer to play my Roscoe's, one of which was also a gift from my wife.

I love my cheapos. The SUB ray 4 is an off the hook value proposition. Also love my mid-range tribute and MiM Fender. I'm glad I'm not good enough (or picky enough) to think I need to always be playing a $2k bass.

I love expensive basses but I can't disagree with you. There is definitely not a $1,500 difference between my AM Pro Jazz and my Squier VM Jazz. In some ways the Squier is actually better.

The best bass for the money I've found have been the EBMM Sterling Basses sold new for $299! I Like basses that have necks that are 1.5 inch at the nut, but I believe these are 1 3/8 inch!

My Affinity P was cheap at first until I went mod crazy.
Since it was my first mod I went waaaaay overboard, so it's no longer cheap.

The only stock parts left is the body, neck and string tree.
I'm considering changing the fret dots to Abalone or Mother of Pearl.

My solid #2 bass (behind my beloved Carvin LB75) is a Squier VM Cabronita I got off CL for $100. Dropped a TV Jones Thunderblade pickup in it and a set of precision flats and OMG!
(The pickup was $140 but well worth the investment) Total cost @ $260.

There are a couple Squire Jags for sale locally and I'm itching for one, but I am avoiding any unnecessary contact with people as much as possible and not meeting strangers, even for a cheap Jaguar!

I can definitely tell a difference when I pick up more expensive gear... And as I've progressed, I've definitely come to appreciate high quality (usually more expensive) stuff. But I'll always have a place in my heart for the less expensive, less flashy stuff. Of the 4 basses I own, the Player Jazz and CV 70's P get most of the play time.

Lucky man you are. Since I own sadowsky basses, I can only play and own Highland stuff. Everytime I play something else, I miss my basses. Even those high end Fenders, musicman and so on feel like lower end basses to me.

Purchased a 84/85 Hondo Fame 8200 P bass out of the boot of a car In a car park.
Thought it would be good for the band room when my sons bands rehearse. Keep them away from my basses. Had a few months and last night I plugged it in and wow...sounds v.good.
Research tells me it's mahogany body and neck, Dimarzio Pup.
Love it.

My cheap budget Ibanez GSRM20 Mirko Bass is my main bass, and I love it and it is honestly one of the best basses I ever owned, and the one bass I ever bonded most to, despite having owned a couple of 1000$+ basses in the past.

It did require of me to upgrade the cheap stock pickups with some proper quality ones to get it to sound great, but other than that it was a great instrument from factory.

Had as good as perfect frets and the most stable neck I ever had on any guitar or bass, holding tuning exceptionally well and almost never requiring trussrod adjustments.

Heh. I have nothing but "beaters." My most expensive bass is a Squier Badtz Maru Bronco. My go-to long scale (in avatar) isn't even a Glarry, it's a Glarry clone. My all time go-to girl is a Harley Benton Shorty I picked up in the want ads for €50.
