I love High End Gear!!!!!

I was about to say that I'm happy for you. If someone says he's so ****ing happy with his high end gear, man I'm happy for him. If he starts saying my stuff sucks, then I'll think he just don't like the sounds of it and prefer his alembic that looks/sounds awful to my taste. I prefer thinking that every one is a nice guy instead of seeing snobs everywhere

With all due respect the above sounds pretty petty imho. What sort of measuring bar do you use to determine whether or not someone's playing is worthy of the dollar value bass they use??

Ultimately, boutique basses are hated because some see it as a pissing contest. The boutique players aren't ordering them to take part in some sort of competition. How does one even measure "groove" in the first place? I may be a bit competitive in my bike races, but at least that's something you can measure. Quantifying music is plain stupid.

So, if someone sucks and use non-boutique gear is it ok? Can we have a "good hard laugh" at them, too? I'm an equal opportunity offender. :scowl:

Every situation, including this one, is going to have its exceptions, situations, annoyances, etc. I don't see the sense in arguing it when nothing is ever going to change. And just so every knows, I have a "friend" who owns a full-blown Mesa-Boogie rig and never uses it, and just goes around the school shooting his mouth off to people he doesn't even know because he thinks he's better than they are. Doesn't bother me anymore really because nothings ever going to change, whether it be my situation or another person's

Perhaps when you're under 21 and a spoiled rich kid. I think most of us who currently own boutique basses work for 'em. I didn't have a full bass rig until I was 26. Don't blame the gear, blame the spoiled little rich kid.

I don't know if you were directing that comment AT me, but I'm going to assume you didn't, because I'm far from being this so-called "spoiled rich kid". Comments aside, I believe you are right....except that the situations where people who can't play go out and buy high-end gear is pretty much scarce if you are over 21......you should probably have determined whether you can play or not way before this age...commonly speaking anyway.

I still play my LTD 304 through a SWR WorkingMan 10. It's not high end, but it works for me. :)

Buy what you want and play what you will. I don't care if you're playing a Fodera through 8 Bag End cabs. If you like it, that's all that matters.


For the record, I would love a Fodera. :D

I guess I'm kind of a "'tween" guy. I skimp on my amplification ( IMO) with a GK 1001 RB and a mish mash cab setup. I just love the way it sounds. As far as basses, well, I've owned a bass or two. My favorite basses are a MIM Fender PJ and a Zon Legacy Elite. Two totally different ends of the spectrum, each doing their own thing and doing it well. I saw a video of some dude absolutely killing a Wishbass last night. It's all pretty relative I guess. I see basses here all the time I'd love to try but don't imagine they'd be any better for ME than what I've got now.

As far as jealousy goes.....I'll bite. I've never been gifted a piece of gear down to cables and strings. Sometimes I'm envious of those who are. In the same respect I'm damn proud of every piecce of gear that I own because I worked hard for it and I don't owe anyone. I'm a hobby-ist at best. I'm always working to sound better and be better because it's something I enjoy. I'm sure this is someting everyone here has in common and it's why I enjoy Talkbass so much.

Yeah that's me.....? I have a BA in Music, I play upright and electric bass (own 1 of each). I have a successful career in business and gig 150 times per year.

I am sorry but it sounds like you are crying over someone else having the means. Nobody is disputing great players sounding great on student level instruments.

Thank you for your opinion, but you CLEARLY did not enlighten me with your sense of who deserves what...or, better, why people get upset when they see someone with lesser skills but more expensive equipment.

By the way...who are you to comment on how my Jerzy Drozd matches my coffee table? Are you now an interior designer?

You suffer from what we call in my line of work ASP look it up.
Do you wear clothes from the U your a grad From?
Judging from your pic and your attitude from this post and the others you have ASP.

My post had nothing to do with means only people playing or owning up to where what their level is at. If you are what you brag about fine you should have good equipment. If you just started or couldnt play simple progressions after a year on bass why order a custom bass for thousands thats my point. If you do play poorly and have equipment outside your abilities I and others have the right to laugh at you. Like my examples of the golf duffer with $1000.00 drivers...let me play thru with my $30.00 driver and whack it half way to the green. People playing on modest gear and killing it look so good vs people sounding bad on high end.... look at what i own snobby gear. Means i got em...and i save em too.

You think you can tell people who they are and what they should and shouldn't do, my point exactly. I'm not sure how old you are but I don't go around laughing at people.

I don't have to like everyone on TB or like when they respond to a post i make and call me ignorant. I can play fair as long as im delt with nicely and agree to disagree on anything. Its all about ones attitude or who some people think they are around here...i'm out.

EASYYY.....Mr. Gold Supporting Member RAM....while nothing of what i said was intended for somebody in particular, it seems that the SHOE fitted....and you have put your sights on me quoting me out of context.....ooh by the way, i spoke about a FODERA matching LIVING room furniture. I didn´t know you had a JERZY DROZD that matched your COFFEE TABLE :eek:.....by the way, excelent instrument and/or coffee table.... PAL ?!!:D

In the end it is all in good fun. None of it really matters. Just a bunch of bass players arguing with each other for the sake of arguing on the internet. Very little if anything like this goes on in "the real world".

But you want to know which topics create this much heat?

1. "Why do Sadowsky's cost so much?
2. "P-basses are better than anything else"
3. "Lead Sled Power amps have more punch than light weight power amps"
4. Pretty much every thread in the lobby on religion.
5. I'm sure there is more, but I can't think of it right now. :D
