After being forcibly seperated from my Modulus Q6SS in November '07 (it was taken after a show) I have aquired a Flea 5'er and man...I had forgot how much I loved Modulus! Played it's first show on Friday and it was like butter. Sounds great and plays like a dream. It's an '06 with the Aguilar OBP-3 and I'm guessing a Basslines pup. Just thought I'd share :hyper:

Cell phone pic goodness...

I own a '05 Modulus VJ. I really dig the tone but the neck feels very sticky. After playing the raw EBMM neck, my hand seems to get stuck when playing my Modulus.

Really? The Modulus basses that I've had just play so fast to me...no "stickiness" whatsoever. Player preference though and mine is this bass! Would love to get another Q6...that'll probably be next on the list!

That looks like the same Modulus they had on sale here at a store here for 1400 used. The one here was blue and a 4 string but it felt perfect in my hand...I meant to ask if that was a good price or not for a used modulus but I dont even know what type of modulus it is.

Depending on what kind of Modulus you were looking at it could be a pretty decent price. Most of the Q's go for something around that. I've seen a few good deals on the Flea's here recently but they normally go for about the same. The VJ's and Genesis basses I'm not really sure on. They seem to normally go for a little cheaper than the rest of the Modulus line.

I've never played the Flea but my Q6 sounds gorgeous!
Yes it is!

That is one heck of a nice looking quilt!

I agree with you. Modulus are tremendous instruments for live gigs. The necks are rock solid and have a robustness and evenness to them that is hard to describe but feels amazing in a performance/concert setting.

Absolutely! You can't really appreciate a Modulus until you get it out with a band. My old modulus Q6 with the ultra-narrow neck is my main live axe. 3 barts. Tone sounds great alone, but get it with a band and it cuts the mix like no other bass. The ultra narrow neck makes it useless for slapping but gives it a guitar-like feel that works very will with a 6.

The neck has never been "sticky" to me. If you want to talk "sticky" that would be any new instrument with a nitro finish. I'm still trying to get the stickyness off my new Gibson robot guitar. Lemon Pledge seems to work the best.

I have an '06 Flea 5 string also. It's a very nice bass, but I don't think I'll buy another Modulus bass. I've tried to contact the company at least five times by mail, email, phone and fax to register the warranty and was unable to get a response. Customer service is non-existent IMHO. Hopefully others have had better experiences.

But it plays well and has a lot of punch.

OHHHHHH MAN!!!! I just got a 98 genesis 5 and it is the most beautiful bass that I have ever touched. The first time I practiced with my band our drummer said he felt like I was playing two instruments, it just fills up the space with the most clarity and warmth that I've ever heard out of a bass. No problems with stickyness, the back of my neck is like butta, but the G5 has a composite wood and graphite neck. Strange that you had such problems with Modulus, I've actually heard good things about their customer service?? Anyway, I'm seriously in love with my bass and I can't wait to play my first live show on it this weekend when we play with The Lovemakers!!

I had emailed them about my last bass (no problems, just a question or two) and it did take them about a week to respond, but they did and answered all of my questions. In fact, they looked up all of the specs for that bass for me and included that with the response. A little longer than I am accustomed to waiting for a response but, I would imagine they are extremely busy. Either way, I'm pleased enough with the way these basses feel, play, and sound that I'll continue to purchase them when I have the chance. Hopefully I don't have any reasons to contact them with this one! :D
