I made dinner.

I guess for me, it's the variation. This past year I lived in the dorms, and our dining hall was TERRIBLE. Every meal from that place made you sick. (Side story: After a meal at the GCSU dining hall, one only has seven minutes to get back to the dorm bathroom before you crap your insides out. It was awful when all four of us went to eat together because we all fought for the bathroom at the same time, and our dorm's public bathroom was a single-seater.) I resorted to eating Chic-fil-a every single day for lunch, and either Blimpie or Zaxby's for dinner. I'm kind of tired of fast food... Now that I'm out for summer break, I've cooked most nights, and not only has the food been great, but it hasn't been the same old stuff.

So I guess I cook to keep my tastebuds entertained...

Summer is my cooking time, nothing like burning animal or fish flesh on the grill.

Fish are animals!

GE, it's an interesting combo, ginger glazed chicken with Raspberries and Strawberries. Bit sweet?

Probably not too sweet, no more than orange chicken would be. Went to me gf's grandparents 60th anniversary at a very fancy restaurant, the salad was served with a passion fruit-ginger vinagerette. Slightly sweet and utterly delicious.

i suggest greens as a side (local and in season). perhaps sauteed with ginger, garlic, onion and some heat.

week nites i cook cause my kids think they should eat every day.

weekends i cook cause my gf likes to eat too.

i am surrounded by a bunch of food addicts. i guess i am guilty as well.

Consider moving to Ethiopia. I don't know how they did it, but they seemingly managed to cure their entire population from their food addiction. Now it just seems to be more of an every once in a while indulgence.

not just funny, but sick too!

seriously tho, i once did an all day fast at a hot springs. it did open my eyes up to how much i eat just cause i can rather than cause i need to.

fortunately, that was a long time ago, and now i eat blindly, all day, again.

I worked as a chef for a few years. Simply put, I cook cause I'm good at it.

I also like spending time with family and friends and I find that food is an excellent way to bring people together.

I actually made money in college by inviting a bunch of friends over to cook dinner for them. I'd just ask for $5 per person and I'd make them something good. Everybody was happy.

Share your secrets, fellow fat man. I'm doing OK but want to kinda kick things up in the weight loss department before summer.

a lot of my weight gain was because I was living the typical fast-food-american-nasty diet. cutting way back on Soda (and gatoraid) was a big help. eating a protein centric diet helps a bunch (low fat, high protein ie eggs, fish, chicken, some pork, little beef). It's also about making better choices when you're out. I started go either no or light mayo in sandwich situations. No Ketchup ever. Mustard is your friend. Ranch is your enemy. In this country, we're notorious for taking something healthy in nature (veggies, salad, fish, chicken) and slathering it in sauce that doubles the calorie count.

Mainly I've just found stuff I like and have kept making that stuff. We buy frozen tilapia from Costco (I realize that frozen fish isn't ideal, but I live 2 days drive from any coast). It has 23 grams of protein per serving, and I usually eat 2 (ish). Put some asparagus in a steam bag for 1 min with spices ( I use a lot of garlic and onion powder, black pepper, salt to taste for both the fish and asparagus) and then finish in a pan with olive oil. Then I put the fish in and cook for a few min. on each side. Easy peasy fish and asparagus in < 10 min, and it's super tasty.

Also, get off of your chubby ass and go to the gym. Doesn't have to be every day, but a few times a week really makes a difference. This is what I started doing. I push myself pretty hard when I'm there, because I know that I don't go as much as I should. I fast walk / jog for at least 30 or 45 min to warm up. Then I do the weights I'm going to do ( usually upper body) in a way to get cardio benefit ( High reps, low weight, short breaks ). After I'm done with weights, I go ride the stationary bike for another 30-45 min to cool down.

more power to you. i started going to the gym after thinking about it for 20 yrs (not for weight loss, but to get me some strength). it is a pain to stick with, just twice a week, but i find doing it religiously (i.e. not questioning it, just doing it regularly - steady schedule) keeps me going. i fell off around winter and it was dangerously easy to see letting it go.

stay with it! go, go, go

Just putting this out there, research for yourself, but Tilapia isn't the best choice of fish. It's got the Omega (6 vs 3) balance all out of whack compared to salmon and others. It's high in fat for fish, but not the good fat. I'm pretty sure they have Mahi Mahi at the same price point. Again, check it out for yourself. There are pros and cons to whichever you choose, but I know there's been concerns over tilapia.

Frozen is a great way to go, most fish is frozen after catch anyway.

Personally, I love a good steak of sword, shark or tuna, but they've got their own problems, so I'll keep the exposure down to maybe once a month, if I can remember. The other times, cod, haddock, mahi mahi, some scallops, clams. Crap I'm getting hungry.

Basically the reason that I use tilapia is because my options are basically tilapia or salmon frozen (at least from what I've seen) for the basic same price. I hate salmon. I've eaten most everything that swims in the ocean (from scallops to urchin to sea cucumbers etc) but the one thing I cannot eat is salmon. the flavor just doesn't agree with me. I do like mahi mahi, but I haven't seen it readily available frozen in bulk.

I LOVE swordfish steaks as well as shark and tuna. I'm also a shellfish whore. If I lived closer to a coast, I would probably be in deep doo doo via mercury poisoning.
