I made my own bridge side string dampener

So I took the suggestion made by funkinbottom and I coated my mute framework in PlastiDip. Pictured is the mute on my Epiphone EB-0 with D'Addario tapewound strings. Sound is through a Fender Rumble 25 set as pictured. I'm still not sure I really like how it sounds...something just doesn't seem right. Also, with the PlastiDip adding so much thickness I can only keep it closed with electrical tape...for now. And the yellow foam will be replaced with black foam once I get the sound right.

Please forgive my rudimentary playing...I'm still a beginner. This is the opening line from Deep Down In Florida by Muddy Waters on his Hard Again album. Timing stinks, technique is bad, and I hit one very obvious wrong note, but what's here is close enough so you all can hear the sound :roflmao:

I'm also wondering if the entire thing is pushing down on the middle strings since there's a curvature and causing fret buzz

I think GentProvocateur is on the right track with this.
Not sure if that type of plastic can be easily heated and re-set to match your radius. might help.
Also, It seems like a denser foam / foam-rubber would work alot better for dampening. especially if some small string slots were cut into one side. The meterial would likely have to be rigid enough so that the width of the slots could be re-cut/fine tuned until the sweet spot is found.

Usually, if an idea cant be easily contructed from items i already have layin around, it quickly loses its fun and motivation goes right out the window ...........................hey look, a squirrel!!!

Somehow I missed that, but the plastic never makes contact with the strings due to the thickness of the foam so I'm not really sure. For now I have set this project the side because it's frustrating....

Perhaps, but to be fair, the plastic on the Fump is hard too so I'm not sure what the issue is. I have given up though.
I understand trying improve or copy an idea that has critical flaw.. Is frustrating.. A jelly brackeet a sock or a thin hair tie has also been explored as well.. Foam on top and bottom is usually too much.. But I double mute anyway.. At the headstock and at the bridge.. Which is fine for heavy handed guys like me.. there's one more thing I never tried.. Plastidip.. Strings. Curl over the part of the string and only dip the part between the bridge and the pickup.. The rubber might give you individual mutes for each string.

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying...do you mean to actually plastidip a portion of the strings? I use tapewound strings currently, so I think that's pretty much covered.
 
Nylon dampen a little.. rubber is would dampen the string more. my idea is to make rubber ferules for each string. the dip is when dried would dampen the string vibration.. enough and with out extra noise..
