I need everyone to tell me which of the most available and best priced SVT's, the ones I'm most considering--II, VR, and 50th--would most facilitate my being the the best human being I can be.
I've not had a regular gig in quite sometime... my old band gets together about 2-4 times a year for fun. I've got plenty of stuff I can gig with, and don't "need" an amp.... but, I find myself looking at SVT pics a lot lately. And it's really unfortunate that I keep coming across the picture below, which are both of my old stacks.... band hiatus + no job = SOLD for cash.
I really got tired of lugging this stuff around by myself, and opted for lighter/easier... now I'm (foolishly?) considering tracking down a stack to live in my music room - or maybe, even take to the occasional big stage gig.
I figured lots of us have been in this situation, feeling nostalgic & missing the great gear of our glory days. Buy? Keep daydreaming? Spray paint my markbass rig with Ampeg logos?

. These are back in Mass in a storage space right now but I do have a head out here and play it through one or two Ampeg B-15T cabs single 15" Nothing sounds like an SVT. No little thumbnail for these:
Nice head, I have a Marshall Major which is probable comparable to that. I've never played through a Hiwatt.
I checked out a Super Bassman today that seems to be in very condition for apparently a very good price. (I also found an all but brand new 410 Neo to go with it for a great price.)
But couldn't commit because this one keeps calling me.
For one, I like the security blanket of the simplicity; yeah it has that six ban/seven slider E.Q. but that switchable; I can operate as though it isn't even there.
Apparently, I'm more of dinosaur, stuck in the late '80/early '90s, than I knew or wanted to believe, but these should be due to be super cool again any day now, right?
Am I crazy? I'm a fool? (I mean, because of this one thing specifically)

It’s a heck of an amp, that’s for sure. But to me, the 2, 2 Pro and Cl are basically the same as channel 1 normal in the original SVT.
Okay, let's suppose if it were between the 2 above and this CL, for the same amount of money, excluding that Super Bassman I mentioned, then what? I'm thinking 2 np.
Also, Steve Stevens (Billy Idol guitar guy) owned the particular 2 in question, and I think that's at least worth laughs.
That's what he was used to playing, now what je plays is class D though
I have no idea what guitar amp/s he uses now. I gather he must have bought this SVT around '89/'90 to just have a bass amp around or for some project, because he a guitar player, and it ended up mainly unused in a storage unit and so on.
I have a WD-800 but it's a bit polite.

However, as a guitar player, how come he was using a bass amp?
I’m working on a lighting project at a mega large church in San Antonio and did a site meeting this week. There in the main sanctuary on the bandstand was a full fridge and SVT! There was a guitar stack next to it but it was covered so it probably wouldn’t be appropriate for me to walk up to look.
First thing I thought, “awesome rig”! Next thing I thought was “no IEMs for this crowd”.

I don't know but he's probably wealthy enough to have or had some kind of rehearsal/recording space where presumably somebody plays or played bass.
I see. That was probably a long time ago. Anyway, an all tube amp is obviously great, but in my experience, a nice SS amp, even class D, can sound the same .
It's a mega church lighting project and they don't realize or connect the dots that it's probably all very low draw LED stuff, right? Therefore, you've got a plausible enough excuse to nonchalantly walk over there, muttering something out loud like "this is the bank of main electrical service panels behind the curtain?", then lift the covers to investigate, like a pro.
They don't even need that stuff. It's in their way, collecting dust. You could be doing God's work helping them out, above and beyond the lights.

This is a lot of theatrical lighting in that service space. That’s pretty high output pro gear. Its white goods troffers in the offices and classrooms. See, you need to investigate the situation there thoroughly concerning the electrical systems, it's your due diligence to do so.
