I don't believe in straight distortion for bass. lol. Maybe a little dirt, thats it though. Chorus, delay, flange, filter, these are bass effects. Leave distortion to the guitars. Completely my opinion, of course!

i need a decent distortion pedal

I would have brought up a better example, but ya, his tone is pretty dirty
If you ask me, I would recommend either the digitech xbd bass overdrive/distortion pedal, the boss md-2 mega distortion, or the tech 21 xxl bass edition distortion pedal. any of those pedals are suitable for metal.
