I Need A Geeky & Uncool Bass...

So I've been recruited by a startup band that has pro management/promotion from an LA-based outfit. They are looking to "franchise" a certain band that is very popular in LA here in Atlanta.

This band is very...different. Only 80's covers. And there is a theme: Super Ultra Geeky. For example - I'll be wearing a bowtie, huge nerdy glasses, a crash helmet, and a Spongebob backpack. The primary focus is "money gigs" like corporate events, weddings, etc.

I really don't feel my sunburst 60's style Jazz will fit the theme. I never thought I would be shopping for an "uncool" bass, but I am.

Any ideas? I need a bass that screams "Geek" like nothing else.

...nothing more 80's than a stienberger...unless you can find a bass like one of Prince's Purple Rain guitars.

How about the Musicvox Spaceranger or Spacecadet. The guy from The Polyphonic Spree plays one and, although I love their music, I think the bass is really geeky.

Well, I gotta agree on the flourescent Deans... And I really think any of the Daisy Rock basses would be great... The sparkly, or the butterfly... But in light of what you will be wearing, how bout a pinkish Beatle bass?

I was actually considering a violin bass. But we tune 1/2 step down. I wonder if a short-scale bass would handle that?

This has potential. Maybe. Definitely good for the hair metal 80's tunes. Only $199.

I like the fact that most of these ugly basses are cheap.
