We do a similar show in Sydney, called Invalid Link Removed and I used to use my Hohner Jack bass which looked the part. Headless but with a full body, I threw away the preamp when I put some bart pups in.

We do the geek thing a bit too well as the demo video on our web site shows.

How about the Musicvox Spaceranger or Spacecadet. The guy from The Polyphonic Spree plays one and, although I love their music, I think the bass is really geeky.

I was actually considering a violin bass. But we tune 1/2 step down. I wonder if a short-scale bass would handle that?
